New Free Agent, would come with a big injury discount. New GM should make this a priority signing. Huge upside if he can stay healthy.

A great pitcher who never pitches. Whenever he has gotten to pitch in recent years, he comes up with a brand new injury the next day--or else goes on a 2 month paternity leave.

He should have a complete physical and send the results around to any team interested in signing him. A real mystery man or someone whose many physical problems have produced accompanying mental problems. I think he's thrown in something like two games over the past two years. Some might sign him as a reliever, I suppose.

Can you imagine a team with Salazar, Eovaldi, and Sale and facing a 180 game season.

There was a time not too long ago when I thought Danny Salazar was the most underrated pitcher in the game. A few years ago, his high Zone% combined with his low Contact% was equaled only by 4 other pitchers in MLB- guys named Kershaw, Scherzer, Price and Kluber.

Since then he has had a littany of injuries. The man has 10 pounds of talent jammed into a 5 pound arm sling. He's thrown 4 IP since 2017.

The Sox' big issue this year is likely to be the health of Price, Sale and Eovaldi. The entire season hangs in the balance of the condition of these three arms. If your main problem is pitchers with injuries, Danny Salazar is far, far more likely to be part of the problem than part of the solution....

If we are going to take a chance on a pitcher, I vote for wood.

Yeah. Let’s finally get a lefty into that rotation..,

I'm in on this also .The reward would be a Worldseries win .Erod,Salazar ,sale ,Price ? That's strong as death if they all have average seasons .

At this point, average seasons might mean 70 IP...

We can always bring back rich hill.

Let's add Salazar, Buchholz and Hill.

They can make a movie based on our rotation called Sore and Sorer.

Or the movie could focus on ERod and be called “A Force of One.”

If ERod does get hurt, the title could be “And Then There Were None”...

Wade Miley last 3 seasons

2017 BAL, 32 starts, 8-15 win-loss, 5.61 ERA

2018 MIL, 16 starts, 5-2 win-loss, 2.57 ERA

2019 HOU, 33 starts, 14-6 win-loss, 3.98 ERA

A tempting roll of the dice ...

Posted

I've never looked at Danny Salazar before. Lemme see...

2017 CLE, 19 starts, 5-6 win-loss, 4.28 ERA

2018 did not play

2019 CLE, 1 start, 0-1 win-loss, 4.50 ERA

I'm not seeing the upside...

Replacing the work horse Porcello with an injury-prone SP'er is not my idea of a smart move.

If we do look to sign a 5th starter (which goes totally against my philosophy, but this could be a rebuild year), I'd go for a low risk-high reward pitcher like

If we can afford...

Julio Teheran (222 GS'd since 2013- 4th in MLB)

Tanner Roark (30 GS'd in 5 of last 6 seasons)

(Both are projected to make $18M/2 by MLBTR.)

Wade Miley ($16M/2 by MLBTR)

My pick as an affordable choice?

Josh Lindblom (MLBTR writes: $8M/2 Lindblom has a 2.68 ERA and a 346-to-67 K/BB ratio in 363 1/3 innings. The righty was carrying a sub-2.00 ERA for much of the 2019 season in the hitter-friendly KBO, and while win-loss record doesn’t mean much in 2019, his 35-7 mark over the past two seasons speaks to the success he’s found. Were Lindblom younger, he may well be ranked higher on the list. He’ll turn 33 next June... His fastball stands out in terms of spin rate, but its velocity isn’t particularly eye-catching (90-92 mph).

Maybe...

Ivan Nova ($6M/1) 120 starts in the last 4 years. 5% BB rate is third best in MLB, although his K rate is 3rd worst.

Probably not worth the risk:

Gio Gonzalez

This is the exact move we should be looking at. Its all about the Cash. Gamble of course, but next year, Price and Sale are a gamble too. Edited by OH FOY!

Are you suggesting Salazar or Miley?

Salazar is a waste on anything but a minor league deal. Miley certainly makes some sense...

Agree the guy is too much of a risk .I was commenting on his talent when healthy and that’s a huge WHEN ? he would be dirt cheap though and I also took this into effect .He would be a lottery ticket at best .Maybe Bloom is feeling Lucky ? Maybe Salazar makes our day lol been watching Dirty Harry lol

McAdam said he heard Porcello is looking for 11+ million a year. Forget it, too much, wont happen here, he said too much. Don't have the Pay-Roll. Edited by OH FOY!

I doubt he gets $11M. My guess is he gets $8M with incedntives or $12M/2 with incentives or a buy out.

All of these amounts are too much, IMO.

Do I have the right Josh Lindblom? Pitched 2014 for Oakland in 4.2 innings, and 2017 for Pittsburgh 10.1 innings. But when you say "35-7 mark over the past two seasons" it must be someone else.

The 35-7 was in Korea, where Lindblom pitched in the KBO...

He also had a great ERA in a hit friendly park and league.

I understand it's a gamble, but anyone you sign at these dollars is a prayer.

Lindblom strikes me as the type of signing that will look really good at first. But by the beginning of June, the league will have caught up to him and he’ll just be another question mark...
