He's too busy building up the Jays farm system.

It's sort of weird so many think Cherington is relegated to do-nothing jobs around MLB, or out of MLB altogether. We rooted for a team that had a former GM as the first base coach just two years ago. Cherington is doing a far more responsible position than that...

Gotta admit, Cherries seems to have done a decent job with the Jays farm. We need a guy like Cherries and a guy like DD to have a head on collision and have the docs put together a Pres of Baseball Ops out of the remaining usable limbs and various body parts. THATS OUR GUY!!!!

It's never going to be easy being head of baseball ops of the Boston Red Sox.

Theo is gone.

Ben is gone.

DD will soon be gone.

Combined they won 4 titles, the most of any team this century. And yet they're all goners...

Given all the dead money attached to this team, the next GM will be a goner too, unless he can build a winner with a 110 mill worth of salaries.

Of course he is. That Cashman tried to hire him as soon as he left the Red Sox speaks volumes.

Sandoval was a misguided signing from Day One....

I don't agree.

He should have at least held down the fort in a position where no Sox GM had a clue how to just have a reasonable human stand in that position.

Then he ate everything in sight

To be fair, as the de facto leader of the Fire Dombrowski Movement, he isn't gone and we really don't know if he actually will be...

I don't see how DD can be blamed for our SPers sucking this year. Yes, he should probably have obtained another RP, but if our SP did their job we would still be in the playoffs. DD assembled a competitive team....which didn't do their job.

He was overpaid and screamed "decline." While he was worth 7.7 fWAR the 3 previous seasson, the late Luis Valbuena was worth 6.0 fWAR those same years while playing about 60 fewer games.

Sandoval received a 5 year $85mill contract that the Sox are still paying despite releasing him 3 years ago. Valbuena signed a 2 year $10mill contract, played it out, and moved on. For the Sox, Sandoval was worth (-1.4) fWAR before being released. Valbuena provided Houston with 3.7 fWAR in that same timeframe.

Sandoval looked like just chasing the bigger name and getting burned by it...

Seriously, you kill me man. Too funny!

Pry him loose with a 10 year contract... as long as it's not part of any salary cap, I'm with it.

Well, he held over a successful team from last year and has done nothing to improve it. Cherington built a Wolrd Series Champion in 2013 and did nothing as well in 2014, and the team was not successful. Was that on the team or Cherington? Because Ben was stripped of some of his responsibilities the next season...

Well, even at the time it wasn't a brilliant signing. But we had to do something about third.WE HAD TO DO SOMETHING!

And yes, it turned out to be the worst possible. No one could have predicted it would turn out SO SO bad.

If things went right, we would have plunked his ass down and he would have covered third for his contract, and we wouldn't have had to worry much about it.

The team won 108 games in 2018 and was a juggernaut by any standard. They lost Kimbrel and Kelly out of the pen and while Kelly sucked for much of the year, the loss of Kimbrel hurt. Still....if our SPs performed we would still be a playoff team. They didn't. Thats on THEM, not DD.

So who do you blame the 2014 Sox first to worst season on?

Wrong, wrong, absolutely wrong.

It was $95 mill...

I think after any World Series Championship all the player get tired of massive partying and drugs and vagina that there is virtually no way they can compete the next year.

Generally its on the players...but in fairness, the 2013 team was not as complete a team as the 2018 team. Last years team won 11 more games and had a better run differential than the 13 team. Last years team also scored more runs and had a better ERA than the 2013 team. And essentially the team we put on the field this year was nearly identical to the 2018 juggernaut, except for the closer. I can't blame DD for the players not doing their jobs this year. I do not recall who left the 2013 team after they won; maybe some of the guys who left caused the first to worst.

In fact, just blaming the SP is not 100% accurate.

Eovaldi - wit ha significant history of injury - has missed most of 2018. Dombrowski's lucrative extension made replacing him difficult. (So apparently he decided not to try beyond Ryan Weber.)

Sale missed time in 2018, and was not the same in the postseason. He was also given a lucrative extension. Now that he is out, don't hold your breath for a replacement.

Price has been having off-and-on issues since 2017. If he isn't 100%, why do you expect the same results from when he was?

Porcello has been a flop. That's on him.

But essentially, Dombrowski took a WSC team and the extent ofhis "improvements" was to replace Craig Kimbrel with Colten Brewer. Meanwhile, Houston and NY and Tampa and, well, everyone else, was trying to get better to catch the Sox. Juggernaut or not, he absolutely gave everyone the chance to close the gap. And some of them took it...

Ellsbury and Dempster.

Ellsbury was still good, but he wasn't the difference between last place and first place...

Well, my rant is about the condition and lack of depth for the SP. I think we all at least had questions about Sale and Price after 2018. Or should have. And expecting a full season from Eovaldi is simply not wise. Where was the depth?

Wright, Johnson........ plus Sale and Price should have been servicable for an offense like ours.

Evo hurt.

This year is kind of a shitshow.

We shouldn't even have to worry about pitching with our bats. Amazing that our pitching blows so bad it's a problem.
