I just think another team has a better chance to get Syndergaard. Not the Yankees, their minor league system is too weak. However, a team like the Padres could put a deal together.

How about Chavis, Hernandez, and Feltman to the Blue Jays for Stroman and Giles? While that is a pretty generous offer, I suppose another team with a strong farm system could top it.

It’s really not that great of an offer. The best player in it is a positionless infielder and the Jays have Guerrero, Bichette, and Biggio taking 3 of those spots. And they still have Gurriel looking for a place to play...

Casas, Dalbec and Benintendi actually is a really good offer for Syndergaard. The sticking point might be the lack of pitching...

Trying to win a WS without a LFer. Interesting move.

Traditionally no matter what you put around the deal, you have to give a pitcher with real potential to get a pitcher that is in effect a known quantity now. Where is that coming from for a Syndergaard? We sent pitchers Kopech and Diaz to Chicago to get Sale.

Yeah, we're not trading for Syndergaard or any other starters. Cashner was it. If we're lucky Dave will get us another legit reliever and call it a day.

Tend to agree. While someone like Lynn makes sense for Boston because of his control beyond 2020, the Sox might forego starters and focus on relievers. Unless the goal is to push Cashner to the pen, which I doubt...

DD has already emptied the farm tho?

Yes. He emptied the farm (other than Chavis, Hernandez, Lin, Dalbec, & Sam Travis) in quest of a WSC in 2018. And do you know what? IT WAS WORTH IT!!!

Hmmm... he hasn’t been great this season.

He doesn’t want to play with the Mets anymore. Might be why he sucks. When you don’t like the team you’re playing for it can be a cancer to you. His last 2 starts he went 7 innings. I would gladly take him.

Finally, something sensible. I have my doubts about Cashner, but completely agree, "no more."

He’s been bad because of injuries. He’s been fragile in his time in NY. Trust me, I’d love him in the Bronx, but there is significant caution to be had with him. He’s an enormous frail pitcher who throws 100.

It was certainly worth it.

Soon, we pay the consequences, which is fine with me. I expected it all along. I just hope we make the lull short and not too bad, although real bad may help us draft well and do better in the extended future.

The Sox most tradable pieces are Dalbec and Duran. Hernandez and Mata also have some value.

Travis and Lin are worthless as trade commodities...

I don't think he meant as trade commodities.

Value as a trade commodity is directly related to value as a baseball player, especially for minor leaguers...

I thought this said Charles or Darwin, which made me laugh.

I think we need another arm for sure, but I don't get Thor is the right fit. I would love him, but I don't see it

Trading Charles Darwin would make a monkey out of Dombrowski

Rimshot...

A player's worth is determined by what someone else will pay for them. Their worth as a trade commodity is unknown until a trade is made.

While true, every MLB organization has a Sam Travis and. Tzu-Wei Lin type player already that they’re not starting and not worried about.

Agreed. Flags fly forever.

I would not trade Mata, Casas, or Jimenez--3 stud prospects. I see Mata as a top-of-the rotation starter in a few years. At best, the Red Sox are looking at a wild card this year, and I wouldn't trade a stud prospect just to improve the team's wild card chances.

I see Chavis as the Red Sox's best trade chip, but who knows what DD is thinking when it comes to Chavis and Dalbec--he might have a strong preference for one over the other.

Good point. And not only did the Red Sox win a championship, but they did so in an historic way, winning 108 games and then going 11-3 in the playoffs, completely destroying the Yankees, Astros, and Dodgers!
