I would not trade Mata, Casas, or Jimenez--3 stud prospects. I see Mata as a top-of-the rotation starter in a few years. At best, the Red Sox are looking at a wild card this year, and I wouldn't trade a stud prospect just to improve the team's wild card chances.

I see Chavis as the Red Sox's best trade chip, but who knows what DD is thinking when it comes to Chavis and Dalbec--he might have a strong preference for one over the other.

SoxProspects writes of Bryan Mata: "Projects as a back end starter, but could end up in the bullpen where his stuff would tick up and play in a late inning relief role."

... while MLB Prospect Watch writes of Mata: "He has the upside of a mid-rotation starter but will have to develop much more consistency to get there."

Who cares what soxprospects has to say--the website is amateur hour, run by a guy who drinks too much Sam Adams beer. The idea of moving Mata to the bullpen speaks to the fact that soxprospects doesn't keep its site updated.

Righthander Bryan Mata was the "SoxProspects.com Pitcher of the Month (June 2019)"

It sounds like Astros are hot on the trail of Syndergaard. I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up there.

How about M.Chavis and T.Ward for Bumgarner? And then move Porcello to the bullpen.

Alternatively, would anyone be willing to trade for E.Diaz while his value is low? How about M.Chavis and Feltman to the Mets for Wheeler and Diaz? I don't know if the Mets would want Chavis -- they could play him at 3b, I suppose. The Red Sox could expand the deal to include D.Smith but the Red Sox would need to add another good player to the trade proposal. I wouldn't mind acquiring D.Smith, he could be the Red Sox first baseman for the rest of this season and into the future.

Edit, or maybe take out Chavis and put Dalbec into the deal. The Mets could use Dalbec at 3b.

Edwin Diaz's surplus value remains high, according to the Baseball Trade Values Trade Simulator:

Edwin Diaz has really good stuff . Obviously , the results have not been there this season , but I think he does have value . I would not mind the Sox getting him .

I think just about all of those deals would get Mets GM Brodie Van Waggoner fired faster than he should have been over the whole “Cano/Diaz” trade...

I suspect the Mets will not move Wheeler if they can trade Syndegaard, which I'm quite sure they will do. He's got two more years of team control, so I suspect Houston will not pass this up.

Why would Smith be available??

He can't play 3b and struggles in the OF. He belongs at 1b, but the Mets have P.Alfonso there. Smith will be traded, if not at the deadline, I would expect the Mets to move him in the offseason. He would be a nice target for the Red Sox. There has been some speculation in the media regarding a Smith trade:

The Sox could use Dominic Smith, but who do the Sox have the Mets could use in return?

I suppose a Dalbec/Smith deal is possible this off-season...

If we can get Thor without giving up anyone on the 25 we will have another parade this year.

If we avoid the 25 man, the Sox couldn’t trade for Syndergaard if they put a shotgun barrel down BVW’s throat...

[h=1]Noah Syndergaard Reportedly “Off The Trade Market”[/h]By Connor Byrne and Jeff Todd | July 31, 2019 at 10:25am CDT

WEDNESDAY, 10:25am: The Mets took Syndergaard “off the trade market last night,” according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post (Twitter links). While the club is still talking about Wheeler — the Mets “have a price” that’ll need to be met in order to move him — it seems they are now all but closed off to a deal involving Thor.

The roller-coaster ride of the Mets has continued unabated. While the club has a legitimate shot at sneaking into a Wild Card slot, it still needs to leapfrog some other teams to get there. After weeks of rumors regarding Syndergaard and Wheeler — following an offseason in which the former, especially, was batted around in trade chatter — it seems the New York org will attempt once again to build around the former and may even hang onto the latter.

Well Houston got their pitcher.just not the one everyone was speculating about. As far as the Sox go, at least no potential next Jeff Bagwell was seen walking out the door. As far as the rest of 2019 goes, that will be decided between the 2 lines. I learned in 1986 that it does not matter what I think or feel about them. Be Happy all....
