That’s what I remember about him most.

Ever seen the you tube video with him talking about the catch in 75? Very interesting about how he basically lost the ball because it wasn’t curving the way it normally would.

I haven't. I'll look for it. Thanks

Btw, the catch Dewey made on the fly ball hit by Joe Morgan in game 6 of the '75 WS still remains the greatest web gem I've ever seen.

He's sticking it to Met fans. That was the guy they expected but never got. I still think this d'Arnaud 3 HR thing is just a weird dream brought on by an upset stomach.

They were all opposite field homers too, that barely played RF wall. Baseball is a weird game.

First row Yankee Stadium specials? The Yankees do that all the time. It's about time that they get burned by it for a change.

Thanks. I'll check that out.

Here’s the link; it’s about a 5 minute video.

When I posted that it was the greatest catch I'd ever seen, one must not just look at the catch, but, also, where and when that catch was made.

You'd trade your mother for the right return though. :D

We have fans who would trade their parents, their siblings and their children 'for the right return'. ;)

Me too. There's enough WTF apologists on this thread.

Splinter, who was the last Sox manager you actually liked? It was Don Zimmer, wasn't it?

Does the name Dennis Leary ring a bell with you? :D

HRs 2017-2019:

88 Bundy

81 Verlander (no wonder he is complaining about juiced balls)

80 Porcello (before tonight's blast & counting...)

5. Tanaka 78

10. Lester 67

17. Happ 65

2019:

Chris Sale HR/9: 1.37

Rick Porcello HR/9: 1.36

Sale is supposed to be our ace, yet he seems to get a pass on giving up more HRs than Porcello.

Can’t even defend Porcello anymore. He’s garbage.

He didn't look good to start, but he managed to work his way through 6 innings. He has to be better, but getting through 6 innings is something. Not much, but something.

I may be the only one who hasn't given up on Porcillo. I still think he's going to get it together. He seems like the kind of guy to me who's willing to work hard to improve/remake his game whatever it takes.

I am with you on this. So is TylerD. :)

The Rays just took the lead against the Yankees and Chapman in the ninth.

The Yankees need a shut down closer.

The rotation this year is a problem--no exceptions. Price has easily the best ERA, 3.16, but averages 5 innings per start. The other three--Sale, ERod, and Porcello--have pitched 23, 21, and 17 more innings than Price, but have ERA's of 4.27, 4.43, and 5.37.

We are paying those guys a lot of money--$88M this year, including Eovaldi who hasn't pitched an inning--and what they are mostly doing is putting a lot of pressure on the bullpen to make up for their lousy starts.

Thus I usually defend the bullpen because collectively they are paid less than 1/10 of what the rotation is being paid.

It's not just about how much they are being paid. Even if the starters were being paid pennies, they are not getting the job done.

True, but they were supposed to be a strength to the club, and their pay reflected those expectations.

The pen has been (overall) pitching like we expected, so it's harder to fault them, IMO.

Sox gained a half game on the A's yesterday, for WC. That's it. Teams are playing good ball, Sox better keep winning against the Cupcakes.

Not even thinking about the Yanks.

I get Manny had his issues off the field and sometimes on the field (defensively), but that guy did some AMAZING things on the field. I wish I could watch him in his prime again. Truly one of the most gifted hitters to ever play the game.

Love this post.

I can remember watching the Opening Day ceremonies in 2005, seeing Pesky raise the banner, and thinking to myself, "That man is having the best moment of his life".

I had the privilege to talk to him that very day. It was the happiest day of his life.
