I'd throw in Johnson (& Thornburg).

Henry would have to be okay with paying mega taxes for a while.

Moon would you or would you not taxes included sure .Sale ,Sherzer ,Price ? For Benny and Casas and some filler ? I would do it in a 1980s cocaine heartbeat .

I think you might find the Nats saying, "If you're insisting that we take Thornburg then we're not going to be able to make a deal." :D

I would, but it's not my money.

The Nats can do better.

So Beni and Casas is worth more than Frazier, Garcia and Estrada? On what planet? Beni is heading into arb next year, meaning he’s about to get paid. Casas is in A ball.

Well you left Barnes off his list.

Beni or Frazier? Gotta go Beni there

Casas or Garcia? Casas is ranked mid-90s or so. Garcia? Unranked. Point - Casas

That leaves Estrada vs Barnes. Is Estrada more valuable yhan Barnes at all?

In 2014, the Tigers started Verlander-Sherzer-Price in a postseason series vs the Orioles and lost all three games...

Sox don't need a Stater. Don't need Outfield, don't need Catchers, doing all right in the infield, Back-ups are pretty good, what's missing?

Last year we had a Closer, this year different. No established Closer. Kelly was so up and down he made only difference in Post Season.

Closer, during the season, is huge.

Post season it's everybody on Deck.

I’ve been on the bullpen bandwagon since November.

The only reason I think they get a starter it’s easier to use a starter for a reliever than it is to use a reliever as a starter...

Starter is more of a need right now because Eo is such a wild card. You’re not gonna win a lot of games when this version of Johnson is throwing. He doesn’t have great stuff to begin with, but he is a disaster waiting to happen every start

You only need 4 starters in the playoffs.

We have 4- not counting Eovaldi.

But you need to get to the postseason before that becomes a factor...

Of course, but we only have a limited budget (until Henry & DD show me otherwise) and our pen needs a solid closer or set-up man.

I still think we are a lock for a playoff slot, but I've been wrong before.

We will not win a World Series this year without blowing waaaaay past the luxury tax .so there is your answer .Sell Sell Sell or trade away almost everyone in the minors including Players like Benny to have any shot in hell at this point .The team is several players away .The 2019 Redsox will be remembered as terrible Pen terrible Baserunning terrible decisions and terrible play .

You’d think this team didn’t win 119 games one year ago...

I would go after Marcus Stroman. I don't know Toronto's needs, but this guy would be the perfect fit for us. And if all four of our present starters stay the course, we can use Eovaldi out of the bullpen down the stretch and into the playoffs.
Posted
Stroman is going to be too rich for your blood in terms of prospects. I would be worried, as a Yankee fan, that Stroman goes to the Astros. We do hit him pretty well, but adding Stroman to their squad would probably give them enough kick to push past us in the standings, and having home field vs the Astros would be absolutely imperative

The Astros are typically very stingy with prospects. It’s not unheard of them to stand pat at the deadline.

Stroman could also wind up in the NL. With Rich Hill going down recently, the Dodgers might be actively seeking a starter.

Oakland, if they decide to stay in the hunt, now has the biggest need...

They’ve got the capital and they know the window for them is closing. With Cole and Springer on their way out and Whitley disappointing this year, they’re going to be in the market for a guy they can control beyond this year

Their window isn’t even close to closing. Bergman is locked up. Alvarez is the real deal. We haven’t even seen Tucker yet or a decent stretch of Fisher. (Consider Springer replaces.) McCullers might be out but he isn’t dead. They still have Josh James. And Whitley might be a disappointment but I bet they don’t give up on him...

Posted

Cole is going away, and he’s a big part of their staff. Verlander is a 36 yr old power pitcher. He will eventually break down. Miley becomes a FA. Valdez is a nice pitcher. Whitley isn’t ready as he is dealing with an arm issue. McCullers may return well or not, who knows. Their rotation for 2020 is Verlander, Valdez, McCullers, and Peacock. 5th starter may be Whitley. That’s not a rotation that dominates.

They need to add, and since they’re maxed out financially, they’ll need to do so via the trade market. Stroman makes sense. Deal for him, add him to a front line with Verlander and Cole for this year and move him to your #2 for next year after Verlander

Springer moving on is huge. He was an MVP candidate before ripping his hammy. He’s a real good player and Tucker might be great, but not likely to be better than recent Springer.

The big question with the bullpen will be how much the Sox think they can rely on Wright and Thornburg. Yes, Thornburg.

Tyler Thornburg has done nothing in 3 years except get hurt. However he did see his velocity return this season to where it was in Milwaukee. This might be giving some false hope that he’s back. But so far he has failed on the failed to back up this hope...

Thornburg not doing too good on rehab in Pawtucket. 15.43 ERA, 4 innings, 6 hits, 8 runs, 2 HRS. Hasn't pitched in 4 days.

Didn't mention 7 BB's.
