Pitching and defense held the hottest offensive team in the league to 3 for 10 innings. Not their fault our offense can’t do jack s*** except for leaving bases loaded multiple times through the season and doing absolutely nothing. Can’t expect to beat teams like Houston Texas etc with 2 or 3 runs a game. Just won’t happen. End of story.

 

Agree completely. However... if our BP kept it together today this game would be long over. This was a post season like game today against a formidable opponent. What did our BP show you?

It’s just not happening this year man. All we can hope is for the season to go away quickly. For the months to go by quickly. Next year will be a big year for a lot of these guys including Cora. This year has been abysmal to say the least.

Lucky for us. We have Baltimore, Toronto and Detroit after this. Sad that we have to rely on beating extremely terrible teams to stay somewhat competitive for a playoff spot but it is what it is.

I only saw the game via replay of the 9-11th innings , but that was enough to reinforce a long standing opinion, goes back a couple years. Matt Barnes is a gutless f*** who cannot pitch effectively when it matters, and now I put Ryan Brasier in the same category but he never should have been there to start with. Barnes, regardless of any stat you can throw out there, blew the one game that mattered tonight. He has no f***ing special ability, he's a thrower and looks like a lost moose in Maine to boot. I would say I hate him, except the truth is, i don't care. Baseball will take of that loser in its own time.

 

Matt isn't alone, however. The bottom of the 10th, bases loaded, nothing from Bogey. 9th inning, Holt runs through a confused 3B coach and is dead meat. Brasier can't pitch strongly and get it done this season. He was a hack before the lightning in the bottle last year.

 

I just want to reiterate before I further irritate people that Matt Barnes will continue to be my subject of unending, biased criticism every time his damn name is mentioned. Please ignore if you love him like a brother.

Very disappointing loss. I stopped posting during the game because you just knew when we could not move off 2 runs even if somebody put a stick of dynamite under the dugout bench that this was not going to end well. I just did not want to have anouther of my "Oh s***, here we go again" posting nights. They just go inning after inning without getting anything done. Each inning is grindingly similar to the last. They don't hit enough HR's and they don't bunch hits. You have to do one or the other. This team doesn't do enough of either.

 

And then what...we are stuck relying on the pen to actually win games. Well they don't bat for one thing and they are a bunch of journeyman pitchers for another.

Jerry and OB down to musing about Hembree as closer. Well the 9th starts as a clean inning and Hembree is yet another Sox relief pitcher that needs to get a clean inning. So what the heck. Seems like they will end up trying everybody before this torture ends. "Thorny....heck back from IL yet....lets try Thorny." Sorta like that.

 

Is it possible that your fireman who is usually one of your possible closers (in this case Barnes) can play the fireman role but can't close? Sure seems possible. Is it possible that there is nobody on this team that can close? Sure seems possible.

 

Next in the list of ugly rationalizations the Mighty NESN's will be saying that we have to give these bums 3 run leads or they can't close.
