Trout got well over $400mill...

Trout could wind up being the greatest ever. Mookie isn't in his league.

I’ve said before, the almighty trio of “Ruth, Aaron, and Mays” will one day become “Ruth, Aaron, Mays, and Trout”...

I think most of you are forgetting that a lot of Betts value is based on his legs ( speed). Once that goes his value will drop a lot. Legs are always the first thing to go and usually go around 30.

if Mookie stays at this rate he is costing himself a ton of $$. he has another year or 2 to make it back.

although harper did have a pretty meager 2018 and still got well over $300MM...so theres that.....

Harper got that deal cause the Phillies were desperate and overpaid for him. I'd rather not pay Betts over 300 MIl because of the Phillies stupidity

Betts value is from his bat speed.

And Rickey Henderson stole 535 bases after his 30th birthday...

If Cobb wasn't such an *******, he'd be listed too.

How many did he steal before?

Just proving my point. Even the greatest base runners lose speed once they hit 30

hahaha that inside the park HR...was he on drugs????? wtf - amazing. what an apt metaphor for this crappy year

but Mookie wasn't playing RF that inning???

it's funny. there is more and more info coming out that Ty Cobb actually was a nice guy. one reporter had a beef with him for whatever reason and Cobb's legacy is forever tarnished.

that said, i agree with your other point. in fact i am close to saying Trout is the GOAT as of now. but realize he needs a few more seasons to make it official.....

Correct.

That was right after Benintendi was ejected and the OF was Travis-Betts-Holt...

Don't let a little thing like the facts get in the way of an opportunity to bash Mookie.

Per A700, Mookie didn't even move to backup that play or make an attempt to retrieve the ball. This wasn't shown on tv.

Of course he was racist. He was born in Georgia in 1886 and was no doubt raised on all manner of racist things. it's possible he realized his error after he retired, but I seriously doubt he was a nice guy during his playing days. I'd put him in the top 5 of hitters/fielders.

Still too early to anoint Trout, but he has been astonishingly consistent at a high level.

My GOAT has always been Willie Mays because he was a bonafide five tool player and a great centerfielder with 660 dingers--and served in the Army.

i am in full agreement with this.

On the bright side, Mookie did hit a HR and flew out on a 400 foot drive. Maybe he is about to break out at the plate.

He’s definitely standing still at the beginning of the shot before Holt crashes into the wall. And the ball does sit at the wall for a long time before he finally ambles back on camera.

I don’t think he had a shot at preventing the home run. But I can see why anyone would say he didn’t exactly hustle...

You just never know. Maybe Pence slips rounding third?

Oh I agree Mookie should have been moving just in case. But as Pence didn’t slip there was nothing he could have done...

Mookie is still hitting a lot of fly balls to RF and with no authority to them. Until he finds that stroke to the gap, the AVG will stay around 265-270. And for god sake he needs to get the wheels going on the bases... a leadoff hitter needs more stolen bases than the cleanup hitter!

He's a much better pull hitter. He doesn't need to hit to all fields like Xander.

As a guy who is being pitched low and away and expected to get on base to be the table setter.... he still needs to be able to go that way and it not be a lazy fly ball to RF.

His slugging for the past two years for low and away shows me that he should just lay off those pitches for good.

All his HR's are basically LF - CF. He should just wait for his pitch.

He’s a mess right now. If the pitchers just stubbornly stay on the outside, he will have to make adjustments. It took Xander a long time to make the adjustment to take away the outside part of the plate from the pitchers and his power numbers suffered for a time, but he learned to get on base.

Would you have believed Mookie would be hitting in the low 260's with 40 % of the season gone? I didn't expect another MVP season but his fall has been a serious problem for the team. Would love to see him get out of his funk and it is entirely possible that he will and soon.

Sometimes a man has to know his limitations. It's better to take the money and run rather to bet on yourself if you're not a great player.

The Mike Trout and the Tom Brady's of the world are the guys who should be betting on themselves.

Actually with several other players hot right now, the Sox can afford to wait on Mookie, maybe when another hitter or two cools down...

Greatest right fielder ever and maybe the greatest player, period. 5 tool player with no weaknesses. Worth $40 million a year. You happy now?
