This is a big week for this team if they have any hopes of trying to get back into this. They’re 7 games back in the loss column. After this series they have 4 against the Yankees. So far they haven’t shown the ability to beat contenders.

Can Brock Holt come back with some level of effectiveness ? I'm sure he'll get a chance but Cora always have favored playing Nunez.

Nunez is an abysmal 2nd baseman. If Holt can play then I suspect he will rotate with Chavis at 2nd with Chavis rotating with Moreland at 1st with Nunez and Pearce in reduced roles until Chavis has swung through couple hundred more FB's.

Bradford just now: "Chavis has been doing an excellent job at 2nd base but he is not quite a 2nd baseman yet".

It takes real talent to contradict yourself within a single sentence and keep a straight face. Bradfo must be considering a career in politics. No wonder the business side of the Red Sox loves these guys.

Maybe he should have said "but he's not quite Pedey yet."

He has been far from "excellent" on defense.

He should have caught that ball vs Houston, yesterday, for one example.

I'm fine with Chavis as our FT 2Bman, but let's not kid ourselves.

There are few players at any position that have been as prepared pre-pitch for every single pitch defensively nor as committed to every play defensively either. That is Pedey and in large part responsible for his success at 2nd as opposed to Kinsler for example who was/is smooth as silk at 2nd. You can't possibly drill that sort of Pedey commitment to every play into every player or even most players playing contemporary MLB. That represents over 100 different defensive preparations and mind shifts per game. It is either there or its not. So I doubt Pedey is the benchmark.

Heck you can barely get a good many of the modern player to recognize that the opponent made the 3rd out and we are shifting from defense to offense now! But Pedey does know how to play the position. I suspect that would be enough of a target for Chavis. Know when to flip and when to throw and how. Know how to move his feet without tripping over them.

This set with Cleveland is an opportunity for a sweep. 2 wins is the minimum for any level of success. First inning does not look brilliant starting off.

What’s with this team? They’re f***ing terrible this year.

Yeah, Cleveland is underperforming poorly

What concerns me on Chavis is can he catch up to a real Major League fastball. He wasn't catching up to Verlander, at 94 and 95. Hope that was a 1 day deal. Edited by OH FOY!

Big Rick showing the flip side of the coin so far. He can be so good and so bad. Either get a DP here or pull him for Weber

Justin Verlander also has a way of making a lot of hitters, even elite ones, look really bad at the plate.

Bogaerts error wasn't his fault. Only 1 ER here so far, if that

You think this team at any minute can turn it around but they’re f***ing terrible. Not consistent enough. This is not the start you wanted from poorcello.

He doesn't throw as hard as he used to. All I'm saying is this the book on Chavis on how to pitch him. Keep an eye on this.
