Bradley is a valued starter not just because of his defense but also because the Sox don’t name any better options anywhere. Even if you move Betts to CF and Martinez to RF, who DHs? Pearce? Nunez? Leon? Are any of them hitting better than Bradley? (Hint: no)

Plus the fact that we should look at a player's career numbers a bit in our judgments, not just this season's first 107 plate appearances.

Obviously, as last night proves, you move Vasquez to 2nd base and DH Chavis.

So Leon's bat gets in the line-up instead of JBJ's?

As of right now, Pedey is out of a job.

Chavis plays 2B everyday, unless we need to rest JD (Chavis to DH), and OF'er (JD to OF & Chavis to DH), Moreland or Pearce (Chavis to 1B) or Devers (Chavis to 3B).

Basically, Chavis can play when we rest anyone from 7 positions not names SS or catcher, or he plays 2B the rest of the time.

Totally agree on Pedey, but keep him around the clubhouse for obvious reasons. Think how good Chavis could be with the constant hitting lessons from JD, and the constant defensive lessons from Pedey. Hell, you can throw Bogaerts in there too.

Agree he’s a necessary starter, especially when Cora continues to use just 12 position players to ensure bullpen depth. I have no disagreement with his career hitting stats, but any mention of those should be informed by current circumstances, specifically that Sox are below .500 and so is JBJ’s OPS.

One thing's for sure, if JBJ doesn't play his OPS has no chance to rise.

It's also so low, it's almost impossible to decline.

I was joking (but then, maybe you were too). We're both idiots.

Career numbers are the best ( not the only , but the best ) judge of a player's worth . On here they are most often used when it supports one's opinion. Otherwise, they are ignored or discredited. Bradley is what his career numbers say he is . No more , no less .

I think it depends on where the player is in his career. JBJ is a bad example for my theory, because I thought his early and prolonged struggles brought down his career numbers by more that what he really was. I thought he was more like a .775-.825 hitter, but he has shown he is not.
