This team at this point needs a lot of Ws so they need the sweep. Tampa hardly loses games.

With Velasquez starting, this is the Red Sox version of the bullpen game. Hector was not effective in relief on Monday night . Let's see if he can give 4 innings, allowing noi more than 2 runs. If not, the rotation is a mess until Josh Smith or Darwinzon (on a call up) show they can go 5+ and be in control.

Velazquez is scary, but Fiers, despite going 6 (with no runs) against us a month ago, is up and down. Thus an ERA of 7.

 

Velazquez ERA is 3.86, but walked 2 of 2 batters two days ago and gave up 3 in 3.1 innings to Detroit a week ago. He has yet to pitch more than 3.1 innings, so the bullpen needs to be ready.

So Bogie gets a rest and Cora goes with five lefty bats, 2 of which are very suspect. Devers and Chavis are hitting 4th and 5th.

 

A month ago when Fiers shut the Sox down, same lineup except Lin for Bogie and Chavis for Holt.

The A's need at least Olson back as they are not going to get their rotation back anytime soon. At least if they had Olson they would have some flexibility in their lineup. As it is now, they are outgunned by decent RH pitching. Olson is not much to look at but where the A's are right now is pretty ridiculous.

Val needs to make better pitches. Ha has thigh high to the belt pretty well zeroed in and that is not a good place to leave the ball. His ball is not moving very much either.

Beni , in the lead off spot for the last 7 games is 4 for 25, with an OBP of under .260. SSS but he is the leadoff hitter.

We always talk about the difficulty of West Coast road trips for the Sox. It looks like between Toronto and Boston, the A's are seeing the flip side of all that time and routine change.

 

One of MLB's programs to be implemented in 2021 is that all teams east of the Missippi play all games east of the river, and vice versa fo west coast teams. It's a contribution to reducing MLB's carbon footprint

Chavis luck ran out on that rebound off the way too tight backstop screen. Should have had the lead, but not Mike's fault for going. It's Lin's fault for coming out of the dugout , down 0-2, then finishing the K with one of the weakest Taiwan-Japanese league type slow slash swing. He is as pitiful as all our other sub .200 hitters

But he looks good when he strikesout. A lot of players when they strike out it's nasty.... He does it in style.
