Well, the BP looked good on the road trip. That's all I've got.

Yup...this road trip was a tough haul for the Game Thread regulars.

Thank God!!!! Don't ask me why 3-8 feels better than 2-9. But it does.

Hot tub shot was worth the price of admission. Might have been worth a plane ride to Arizona and a pair of binoculars.

They need a wining streak on this home stand. They can’t play under 500 or even 500

It was as ugly as it gets. Some of us can be a tad dramatic. But it was an ugly start. Hopefully today is the start of turning things around.

It has to otherwise they will just dig a hole early. Rays and Yankees will compete against us.

What'd I miss?

One run. Fortunately scored by the correct team.

A shutout for the much-maligned Red Sox bullpen, pitching to the much-maligned catcher Blake Swihart. What else?

Moreland always seems to start each season hot.

He's at 1.006 now.

2018: 1.000 on June 5th (.623 afterwards and ended at .758)

2017: 1.010 on April 19th and at .877 on June 13th (.689 afterwards and ended at .769)

Yup and the Yankees are getting it together as we knew they would. One game back of Tampa.

Cora was maligned for starting Velazquez over Sale.Velazquez was maligned for not being Sale.

They've also played 6 games against the Orioles already.

And Sale was maligned for not being vintage Sale.

Nothing challenging yet. Orioles and Tigers don't have the loftiest of expectations this year

I will gladly take a 1-0 win. Yes, we might have gone 3-8 on this trip, but we can say that we didn't get swept in any of the 3 series, which I think is important

Great game, great win, especially given the last 10 games. Good finish to a brutal road trip.

Sox fans, please note: the Sox won this one without a single pitch thrown by the very expensive rotation; Swigart, not Leon or Vazquez, was behind the plate and must have had some influence on 9 shutout innings by no less than 5 Sox pitchers; Barnes so far totally outclasses Kimbrel with much better stuff; Cora again was a pretty darn good in-game manager.

Before getting our hopes up to high, don't forget that our rotation remains problematical, our lineup ain't last year's yet, and the defense, including the outfield, doesn't look so hot.

But this game was a good start at something better.

This might be the shortest game thread in a while--and it was a much-needed win. I was one of the non-contributors.

Can we dispel the myth that when you loose one sense, the others get heightened to compensate? It’s really only true about eyesight. If you lose your sense of smell, you don’t start seeing better...

I had a friend who lost his sense of taste. The doctors were baffled as to why. (He couldn't smell any better, but he did develop X-Ray vision-- just kiddin'.)

Speak for yourself amigo. Whenever I get a bad cold and I can't breathe through my nose, losing my sense of smell and taste, I get X-ray vision. This doesn't happen to you?

My cousin in law lost her sense of smell after a bike accident. She works at Angel Memorial in Boston and her super power is that everyone lets her express all the pet anal glands because she can't smell anything. Seems like a downgrade to me.

Disabilities and other things of that nature are only a downgrade if you want them to be. I have a speech "disability," but I don't let that stop me from doing particular things, like say public speaking

I think the downgrade isn't the lack of smell, but the fact that she has to express dog and cat anal glands all day.

Well that's good to know. I see a glimmer of hope as well, as do most people I've told about the situation. ;)

I get your point, but if she can't smell, then what's the difference? If she doesn't complain about it, then who cares?

If she does complain, then that's on her

But I was kidding. I don’t see any hope at all ...
