I certainly understand the concern.

I would counter-offer that Sale must have good numbers in cold weather considering the teams he's pitched for.

...and his first half numbers are better than second half.

Like a 3.02 ERA and 1.006 WHIP in April while pitching for ice box teams like the CWS and Red Sox.

Everyone here is silly...

Cold weather affects hitters more than pitchers.....

The cold weather can cause pitchers’ muscles to tighten up quicker. Especially those who insist on always wearing short sleeves...

no one said it doesnt effect hitters. i dont care about hitters. what i am concerned about is Chris Sale's FB velo.

The cold weather increases injuries for all players. Pitchers are the most injury prone player on the field, so it does affect them the most

Myself, I will gladly take the Sunday Arizona win and let Tuesday or Wednesday take care of itself. This rotation has a looooooong looooooong way to go to actually pitch to anything like its potential this year. As I said in another thread, Price and ERod are closest to that. Good news in the case of Price and bad news in the case of ERod. Nat has the usual disease of hard throwers that have not prepared for the season. He is throwing hard but has no idea where the ball is going. His ball is moving all over the place no matter what pitch he throws. I don't expect post season calibre performances from Nat. But he is simply all over the map. Porcello's mechanics are a mess and far below his standard for consistent quality throwing and Sale is on some sort of plan apparently. Said plan suggests we might see Chris Sale pitch like he can again in May or even June unless he just decides that enough is enough with this plan stuff.

Can't blame Cora for this one . The decision to start Velazquez was made by Harold Nerdwell from the analytics department.

Apparently, those nerds know what they're talking about.

...and give him extra rest.

(I thought we were going to start the season with a 6 man rotation, since we had no day off for a long time.)

IMO, giving Sale and the other starters extra rest was the main reason for starting Velazquez.

Having the pitchers be strong in September and October remains the game plan.

We did it a few times last year, so...
