[h=2]Yankees To Place Giancarlo Stanton On Injured List[/h]By Steve Adams | June 26, 2019 at 4:22pm CDT

The Yankees will place right fielder/designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton on the 10-day injured list due to a strained posterior collateral ligament in his right knee, manager Aaron Boone announced to reporters (Twitter link via The Athletic’s Lindsey Adler). He won’t travel with the team to London for the upcoming series against the Red Sox. Mike Tauchman is on his way up to replace Stanton on the active roster.

Stanton, of course, had only just returned from the IL last week after missing more than two months due to a biceps strain. He went 7-for-23 (.304) with a homer, a double and seven runs knocked in during his brief return to the Bronx, but he’ll now be sidelined for at least another 10 days in what has become an increasingly frustrating campaign for the four-time All-Star and 2017 National League MVP. The latest injury occurred on the basepaths in yesterday’s game; Stanton exited prior to the fourth inning of said contest.

With Stanton once again headed to the shelf for a yet-unspecified period of time, the Yankees will likely lean on Brett Gardner, Aaron Hicks and Aaron Judge as the primary outfielders with newly acquired Edwin Encarnacion lining up as the primary designated hitter. Even a Stanton-less New York lineup is quite formidable now that Judge, Hicks and Didi Gregorius are all healthy at the same time, but the drop in offensive output from Stanton to Gardner is nevertheless notable.

The Yankees have not only weathered but thrived in the face of an exceptional number of injuries thus far in 2019. Despite their substantial injury woes, they’ve opened up a comfortable 6.5-game lead over the second-place Rays, whom they swept at Yankee Stadium last week.

I don't know why they'd call up Tauchman over Frazier.

Because they need a backup OFer. Frazier needs to play everyday, and until he fixes his defensive issues, is a DH at the big league level

I’m just glad Stanton wouldn’t waive his NTC for Boston and instead only looked at the 4 teams that played in the 2017 LCS’s. Thanks, Houston, for knocking us out and not allowing our GM to cripple our team with a $30mill player who can’t stay healthy enough to play DH in his 20’s....

Stanton was healthy almost all of last year and carried the offense for much of the season. Not sure what to say about 2019. I still think he'll be productive in the 2nd half. And i think the Marlins are eating a portion of his contact too.

Whereas Sandoval and Rusty are being paid richly by the Sox to stay far away from Fenway, thus prohibiting your team from getting the bullpen help it needs, or as you said, crippling it.

Technically Castillo isn’t in the way of bullpen upgrades, as his salary doesn’t count towards the luxury tax. And because of this, he’s never going to be added to the 40 man roster in Boston.

Sandoval is another matter. Fortunately this is his last season bogging down the payroll. That was probably the Sox signing I opposed the most adamantly, preferring the low cost but equally performing options like the late Luis Valbuena, a name I littered that other site with that entire off-season...

Stanton has been snakebit this year. Two straight healthy years. This year, he tweaks his bicep during a swing, decides to get his shoulder injected and it didn’t go well. He finally hits the rehab trail, gets hit by a pitch and strains his calf. Finally returns, is hitting the piss out of the ball and sprains his knee sliding into a base. I’d say the first two injuries can be of the “injury prone” variety as they were unprovoked soft tissue injuries. Getting hit by a pitch and an awkward slide are dumb luck. Stanton is expected back in August for the stretch run, per Cashman. I’m still happy as hell to have him. Next year will be a different year

German’s velo was down and he got rocked in his AAA start, yet they’re rushing him back for Wednesday. I don’t get it. With all the days off, we’ll need only one pen day. I’d stash him in AAA through the break

Deivi Garcia could get the Loasiaga treatment and get called up straight from AA to start. He has to be added to the 40 man roster next year anyway so I don't think it's that outrageous of an idea.

And I'm still mad that Mike King has been out all year, he'd have been perfect to slot in.

Voit to the IL. There was optimism that he’d avoid the IL, but it makes too much sense to make this move with 6 games left and the ASB looming. He’ll be eligible to return once the break is over

It looks like Severino will be out at least another 6 weeks, this means all the way to September. I think it will be better if they shut him down for good this season and let him heal properly for next season.

I hope his career is not in jeopardy, this doesn't smell good

Sevy would be a big weapon in the postseason if we can get him back by late Aug/early Sept. Even if he's just throwing a few innings at a time out of the bullpen. I think you still get him ready for 2019.. unless tomorrow's tests come back showing that he's still injured.

Sanchez to the IL with a groin injury. Hopefully it's a short term stint. He had been slumping but looked to be snapping out of it with a couple of rockets yesterday (unfortunately none for hits).

Another player to the IL

"The Yankees have placed outfielder Brett Gardner on the 10-day IL due to left knee inflammation"

Posted
I think Gardner was IL'd more for roster flexibility. The bullpen is a little spent and they wouldn't have been able to call up Tarpley without someone going on the IL.
Posted

Maybin was activated today. Tarpley was sent back down to AAA to make room.

I understand the move but poor Clint Frazier. I'd be surprised if he isn't moved in some deal for a starter.

Posted
Frazier is locked in Cashman's doghouse. And I was wrong about the Yankees needing another starting pitcher . One would not be enough . Their rotation is a mess .
Posted
They're definitely going through a rough patch. It happens.. it's just unusual that every starter is struggling at the same time. Before this past week Yankees' starters were ranked 8th in MLB in park adjusted ERA. This past week+ has caused that ranking to shoot up to 15th. Recency bias is causing everyone to exclaim that the rotation is utter dogshit, but they've actually been quite effective for most of the season. Either way I agree they need at least one more starter.

Tanaka does this once a year where he puts up a month’s worth of starts where you can barely use him. Then he goes on fire. Paxton is new territory for him. Outside of a 2-3 week absence, he’s been pretty healthy. His stuff is there, and he was rolling until his last start. German the same deal. His stuff has been good, but he lost it all vs Minn. he didn’t have anything that game. I have zero problem with giving either of those three the ball if the POs started today. What I do worry about is German teaching unreached territory for him in innings and the fragile Paxton staying healthy down the stretch. With Sevy potentially returning, we definitely need one more guy if only to ramp down Happ’s starts so his 2021 option doesn’t vest

Voit lands officially on the 10 days IL with a sports hernia, no many details on how long will take him to get back
Posted

One more: David Hale to the 10 days IL with a lumbar spine strain.

BTW, Voit might need surgery

Posted
If the old man was still alive , heads would be rolling in the training and conditioning department .

That might be needed, this is a damn joke.

Never seen a team affected like this, this should be some record. Not sure if we can keep the pace, unless some major pieces come back at full strength
