lol...it is crazy how this season has been for your squad. i think maybe you guys picked up the Red Sox doctors/training staff this offseason?

Yeah I don't know at what point they shift from saying it's bad luck to saying it's a poor job done by the training staff. Some injuries were unavoidable but many were just muscle pulls and strains. Maybe I'm just mad but I would fire someone.

If I were Cashman, I would gut the training staff after the final pitch of the season is thrown. A few fluke injuries and you gotta chalk it up to s*** luck. When you lose 13 players from your big league club, you have to be worried about preparation. Let's break these down...

Heller and Montgomery blew out their elbow's. That's not really on the training staff.

Didi made an awkward throw and blew out his elbow, so be it.

Andujar dove back into a base and tore his labrum. That's not on the training staff

Judge blows out an oblique. This is the kind of injury that is preventable

Stanton blows out a bicep. This is preventable

Sanchez pulls a calf. This is preventable

Tulo pulls a calf. I would like to put this on the training staff, but he is made of glass and the fact that he even saw the field is a minor miracle

Hicks misses 6 weeks with a back issue. This is preventable

Bird: see Tulo

Severino pulls a lat muscle. This is preventable.

Frazier sprains an ankle going back into the base. Not preventable

A lot of this is dumb luck, but when you consider the loss of Judge, Sanchez, Hicks, Stanton and Severino (the core of our club) and all of them have preventable injuries, one must look at their preparation. Heck, they're all under 30 years old! It isn't like we are maintaining old bodies here. Dump the staff ASAP

No timetable for Stanton or Judge, although Stanton is swinging and throwing, so that’s a good sign. Judge went down April 20, so he’s now missed 3 weeks. He has not resumed baseball activities, lending to the likelihood that he’s got a grade 2 strain. (Grade 3 is torn off the bone and in prime athletes is treated with surgery, so that didn’t happen). Grade 2 strains have a 6-8 week recovery time, so I don’t expect Judge back this month.

In terms of Andujar, he’s back but he is pounding everything into the ground when he’s making contact, but he’s also striking out at an uncharacteristic rate. Not sure if it’s injury or rust, but he’s hurting the team. We should option him to AAA and let him start at 3b for a week or two to get his timing back or to determine definitive if he’s hurt worse than he lets on

Hicks called up today with Tauchman being sent down. Sucks for Tauch, he was actually playing better these last two weeks.

Also Loaisaga was supposed to start today but was put on the IL with a shoulder strain (what else is new). Chance Adams coming up in his place to start tonight. He hasn't pitched in AAA since last Tuesday so he should be able to eat some innings (if he lasts long enough).

Edit: It looks like Cessa is actually going to start (or be the opener). I imagine he'll go a few innings and then they'll go to Chance.

Andujar out again with the shoulder. Surgery likely

I saw him a couple times, it's clear he's not 100%, let's get the surgery done and hope for the best, in the meantime lets ride the hot streak with Urshela, but he might be exposed eventually.

I'm on the fence about surgery. If he doesn't actually need it then I'm against it. I think the team just rushed him back too soon from rehabbing his shoulder. I'd put him on the IL for awhile and keep playing Urshela at third while he's hot. Hopefully Didi will be back before the ASB and then we can slide Torres to 2nd and LeMahieu over to 3rd (if Urshela is no longer hitting).

Urshela has been good and we have built in cavalry when Didi comes back. Sucks for him, but he looked terrible on his return. Surgery now will ensure he’s healthy come spring next year

I'm not completely sold on Urshela, eventually the league will catch up to him. But I've been wrong before (Voit).

He's an amazing fielder but not sure about his bat.

The good thing is that DJ LeMahieu is our insurance policy when Didi comes back.

Didi headed to ExST and will start at SS. Stanton to go on rehab assignment Monday. Paxton will throw another BP today, and if that goes well, could be activated next week. By early June, we might have all 3 back. The next big domino is Judge who has already missed a month now. He says he won’t be fully healthy upon return. That’s somewhat ominous in some ways and realistic in others. These obliques can still grab for months. My guess is he’s gonna give it a go and will need to be babied for awhile after his return

It's not like you really need him.

We've been getting by without him, but I'd say it's more because of the pitching. Our hitting has been pretty mediocre when we aren't facing the O's. Maybin has done enough to not be a negative but having Stanton in the lineup over him makes a huge difference.

The league will catch up with the young guys, Maybin will go back to earth. We need Judge, Didi and Stanton healthy for the 2nd part of the season.

Come playoff time, they will likely make a difference. Right now, and likely for the remainder of the regular season, having those guys out is not hurting you one bit.

IMO, starting pitching was always a much bigger concern for the Yankees. German has been huge for you guys.

i have to admit i have not been watching very many yankees games at all this season. how has boone been doing this season?

it is amazing to me the amount of W's for your team with so many star players injured. is boone pulling a 2018 Cora with magical gold dust moves? or are they winning in spite of his usual doofus moves?

Sabathia officially to the IL. I believe he went on the IL last year for the same knee issue. Has to drain the fluid, get a cortisone shot, rest, etc. I think it cost him about 3 weeks last season.

Paxton was lights out in his EST start striking out 7 and walking 1 in 4 innings, but he said he still feels something in the knee. He said if he wakes up today and feels the same as when he walked in yesterday, he’ll play through it. If it feels worse, he’ll “take care of it”. That’s somewhat ominous to me. Make it sound like there’s something in there like a meniscal tear that he’s trying to play through. Keuchel is still out there and come June 2, won’t have a pick attached to him. If Paxton needs to be fixed, then snag Keuchel for a season and roll

Betances threw a BP today without issue, soon to go on a rehab assignment if the arm feels good tomorrow.

Sabathia is already throwing and expected to miss the minimum 10 days. He is likely to start vs the Sox on Sunday.

Paxton is expected to return Wednesday vs the Padres

Wow, projected to be Price vs Sabathia on Sunday. Decent pitching matchup today, fantastic pitching matchup in 2008
