As I said, just because some of you were duped into believing Damon was something other than what he was does not make him a traitor.......

I don’t think he was a traitor. I think he was done in Boston...

Posted
Well, wasn't Damon a "self-important traitor" before he came to the sawx?

I mean, it's not like he came up through their farm system.

Self important before the Sox - maybe.

Traitor before the Sox - no.

Damon had no place on the Red Sox. He could really handle CF anymore, at least not very well. His arm was never going to work in RF, and Manny was entrenched in LF and Ortiz at DH...

I get that and I agree with it. I was okay with the Sox not re-signing him.

I was not okay with him agreeing with the Evil Empire. Anywhere but the Yankees.

"i'll never play for the yankees" is what makes damon a dickbag.

boggs on a horse is what makes him a dickbag.

clemens throwing a broken bat at piazza makes him a dickbag.

That's a BINGO.

I can't really hate on any guy who heavily contributed to the Red Sox winning a world series, even if they go to the Yankees. I have no hatred towards Ellsbury, Damon, or Youk..

That's the way I feel too.

Damon didn't become a traitor until he refused a trade to the Sox at the end of his career. That could have bridged the gap between him and the fans. He just thumbed his nose at them.

Maybe he didn't like living there?

If you had millions would you go somewhere that you didn't want to go?

Yes, he'd rather live in *checks notes* Detroit.

You'd have to ask him.

Or it may have been he figured he would see more playing time elsewhere.......

Sox were getting him to start in the OF tho............ LOL

I did a little research.

Damon did not want to come back because of the acrimonious split his first time in beantowne.

Sounds to me they threw him under the bus on his way out of town like they have done to others.

Can't say I blame him and that certainly doesn't make him a traitor.

And your internet research skills are well established here.

It's not really a great shock that when a name free agent goes directly from the Sox to the Yanks or vice versa, some people are going to regard them as a traitor. I'm sure some Yankee fans felt that way about Mike Torrez and took some extra pleasure in the Bucky Dent game as a result.

They were probably livid over Jim Mecir...

You made me look him up. But I don't see how he pertains to my post.

I was trying to think of the most obscure former Yankee to come to the Red Sox. There are undoubtedly lesser players than Mecir who did it, but the impact on the joke stayed the same.

Although Mecir was such a quiet addition the Red Sox, I didn’t even know they had him until he was selected in an expansion draft...

From what I read it sounded more like he was referring to the front office, not the fans.

Damon had an acrimonious divorce with the Red Sox after the 2005 season, which was made worse when he signed with the archrival Yankees, whom he helped win the 2009 World Series.

In New York last week, Damon said that "when I left Boston there was a lot of hard feelings, a lot of mistrust and all that stuff," and it very well could have played a role in Tuesday's decision.

The least surprising one to me is Mientkiewicz, since he was a high school friend of A-Rod...

In the NFL, signing bunches of free agents from the same team is often a big part of a rivalry. It seems like every Raider to hit free agency went to the Chiefs and vice versa. And in the Parcell years, the Patriots kept loading up on ex-Jets and the Jets kept grabbing ex-Patriots. Otis Smith went back and forth between the two teams like 4 times.

It’s somewhat surprising you don’t see more of that between the Sox and Yankees...
