The Red Sox have not swept a series in Seattle since 2010 (and have never swept a four-game series in Seattle).

Over the past decade of Mariner mediocrity, the Red Sox have won two series in Seattle while the Mariners have won five series. The clubs have split the other five series.

Thank you for the kind words.:)

Hopefully the Ms has greater aspiration ending their playoff drought one day.

Harm , Any word on why the Mariners won't give King Felix the honor of the opening day start ?

Seattle instead will give the Opening Day start to lefthander Marco Gonzales, the former first-round draft pick who last year posted 3.6 fWAR, just ahead of Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke.

I regret to report that Felix Hernandez probably has an attitude problem. Even with his utter lack of effectiveness, Hernandez was likely to be the Opening Day starter if he had a better attitude (shoot, Ichiro will get the Opening Day start in Toyko on Wednesday). If Hernandez remains ineffective through May, Erik Swanson, Tommy Milone or Justus Sheffield will likely replace him in the starting rotation. With the Mariners "stepping back" this season in the final year of the Hernandez contract, it's a sad end to his stellar 15-year career that lacked a postseason appearance.

Today Hernandez surrendered five runs, four earned, on four hits, over four innings, issuing three walks and striking out none, in Seattle's 6-5 win over the Yomiuri Giants in Tokyo:

In a matchup of natives of Valencia, Venezuela, Hernandez and Eduardo Rodriguez are the probable starters for the March 31 game I will attend.

How many four game series have the two teams played since 2010?

That's an interesting combination of sports fans.

Enjoy!

I can't believe baseball starts next week!

Sweeping a 3 game series is difficult to do.

Sweeping a 4 game series is even more difficult.

I'd be very happy with winning 3 of 4.

In about 36 hours the Mariners and the Athletics open the regular season in Tokyo.

One friend grew up in Boston, one in Wichita and one in Kalamazoo. This Mariner fan is the lone one who abandoned the favorite team (the Twins) of his childhood.

Yes, they'd be happy if the Sox won only 3 of 4.

It's possible.

The Red Sox have won only two of the last 12 series in Seattle up against undistinguished Mariner clubs.

So, sure, it's possible the Red Sox could win three of four.

If I'm not mistaken, I witnessed the final game of each of the last two sweeps in the Red Sox/Mariner series in Seattle.

In 2007 the Mariners swept the World Series champion Red Sox with a walk-off win in the 11th inning:

In 2010 the Red Sox swept the Mariners behind the pitching of Clay Buchholz and a home run from Adrian Beltre (whom I saw hit a grand slam against the Guardians the previous month at Fenway Park):

That sounds & feels right. We have not done well there in the last several years.

Still it is a GREAT PLACE to see a Sox series!

Had our honeymoon there almost 13 years ago....

Planned by my now wife. Secured our eventual marriage during the EPIC 2004 series, specifically during the game 4 ALCS. Better & concurrent story to Fever Pitch, but it was still a GREAT movie!

15+ years later, we never miss a Red Sox series, but they are bit tamer when we take our 12 year old.

What a GREAT city when the Sox are in town. You would swear that you are in Boston, as the City is completely jumping with Red Sox fans EVERYWHERE! Very hospitable territory too. Nice people. In fairness to other cities, I'm not sure they really know that we're there, as most are stoned to the gills. Anyway, it is a total blast!

My wife, the cute one in the family, has secured almost every RS player autograph over the past 15 years. Yeh, I stay out of sight. Whatever, it works.

;)

If you can ever make it, it is well worth the trip!

I have my DVR set for the Mariners/Athletics game. I'm excited for some regular season baseball.

The big question is...who is going to the Sox home opener? Ring day....

I would be willing to take a trip to Fenway if someone wanted to pay my expenses.

Living in So Cal , it will be easier to go to Phoenix for the D'back series and see Rick Porcello rake for one game. Definitely will see 2 of those games.

In their season opener the Red Sox will face Seattle lefthander Marco Gonzales, who today surrendered four runs, three earned, on seven hits over six innings in the Mariners' 9-7 win over the Oakland Athletics to open the MLB regular season in Tokyo:

This biased fan still finds Gonzales to be underrated.

Well boys, the boys just left their hotel in Seattle for Safeco / T-mobile. THE BOYS ARE LOCKED IN. Saw Benny, Deavers, & Nunez in the Starbucks at the bottom of the hotel. No autographs as per usual. Saw all the rest outside, but They ALL got hopped right on the bus without a second look. LOVKED & LOADED!

They look ready to play.

Can't wait! Headed over by the ballfield. NO CHANCE of getting Sale's autograph, but we will give it the old college try.

Play Ball!

Beautiful day in Seattle! Top off. A little chill, but should be 60 - 65 & partly cloudy at game-time.

Why’d the game thread get closed?

I may have done that by accident, sorry, was posting on my phone and I think I hit close thread check box on the bottom of the thread. Should be open now.
