The Nats now have $525 million invested in Max Scherzer ($210 million), Stephen Strasburg ($175 million) and Patrick Corbin ($140 million) in the front end of their starting rotation. Corbin is good but after checking his numbers, the Nats overpaid.. In six seasons, he has yet to record an ERA below 3.15 and he's 28 years old.

Is there any word on Joe Kelly yet? If Kimbrel walks, he walks.. I'd love to resign Eovaldi and add Andrew Miller if possible.

Yanks are now in on Eovaldi and Happ. I’m not surprised about 6 yrs, but I am surprised at $23.3 mil per.

It's the rate for a mid rotation starter now. Porcello makes $21M next year.

Nationals exceeded the luxury tax in 2018 so their penalties for signing Corbin are:

Loss of 2nd "highest" pick

Loss of 5th "highest" pick

$1,000,000 from their 2019-2020 IFA Signing Bonus Pool

But Porcello also got a 4 year deal and has been far more consistent than Corbin.

The Sox did good on the extension. Porcello was slated to become a FA the year he won the Cy Young.

I think the nationals are smart to invest in the rotation and let Harper walk.

Desperate Dave seems to be locked in on wooing eovaldi back. Should get interesting.

3 consecutive Division titles and a World Championship earns him the nickname, Dominant Dave.

Having a potential outfield with Juan Soto, Victor Robles, and Adam Eaton helps...

I legitimately do not understand why some people still don't embrace DD. He created one of the best teams of all time an won a title in the meantime. If this was 2004, Dave Dombrowski would be pissing gold. The only knock on DD was that he ruined a great farm system. But he did so to win a title. You make that trade every time

Yes, Dombrowski did the right things and they worked.

It's OK to criticize some things, but to hold any and all mistakes against him like they were fatal to the organization is flat out silly. It's like chiding Alexander Fleming right after he discovered penicillin by saying "Hey!! You ruined all that bread!!"

Of course!

The only argument that might ever have been able to be made, is if he traded all these farm pieces and we never won a ring.

That argument is out the window. DD deserves all the praise in the world. The farm trade off was well worth it.

There's no arguments left. Game over.

Scoreboard.

Yup, and at DD's age, once the cliff arrives, he will ride off into the sunset and you'll be blaming his successor for a sustained run of mediocrity. DD played his hand perfectly

No me. I still "blame" Ben for this ring.

Seems like a lot for a guy who has been pretty mediocre until this year . I guess the starting pitching market is kind of thin.

You could say the same thing about Eovaldi, with the exception of this year.

Price would have been the best one on the market had he opted out...

You really can't. Ben never would have pulled the trigger on Sale, Price or Kimbrel and without either of those three, you don't have a ring

We don't really know what Benny Boy would have done. But he certainly contributed to this ring. So did Theo. He acquired Betts and Bogey and others. It's a long process.

It's kind of amazing that the Sox have 4 rings with 3 different GM's and 3 managers in a span of 15 years.

I disagree, but even so, Ben's farm helped us win the ring (with DD's trades).

Zero percent chance Ben never traded some top prospects had he stuck around. ZERO!

Next Off Season, is where he will earn his pay.

I know right. I can't wait to see whether or not that Dombrowski guy will ever do something worthwhile for us. if it hadn't been for those 2 GM's before him, who never get any credit by the way, we would be ......

I would be a lot more impressed with Dombrowski if he had torn the team down, then built it back up from scratch. He didn't. The 'one of the best teams of all time' that he 'created' was already 2/3 created when he arrived in Boston, and the 1/3 that he did 'create' would not have been possible without the strong farm system that he didn't create but did manage to ruin, and without the numerous cost controlled players that were already part of the 2/3 that he didn't create.

I'm not impressed with his acquisitions of Price, Sale, and Kimbrel.

I am far more impressed by his under the radar moves in 2018.

What's wrong with Benny Boy? It's not an insulting nickname, like Desperate Dave. I was trying to give Ben some credit here.

I guess it's the 'Boy' part.

Big mistake by the Yankees--they need Corbin. I doubt they can sign Eovaldi, not after Cashman dumped him when he needed TJ Surgery.

Maybe the Yankees will sign Manny Machado and trade Andujar for a SP. That might be their best strategy now that Corbin is gone.
