I wonder, if people use an injury excuse to take out a pitcher, they will have to go on the IL.

I can see some teams milking this rule.

That or they will purposely get ejected for arguing balls and strikes

IMO, it should be 2 batters. I’m fine with 3 though.

f*** that.

Don't make rule changes that change team strategies. If a manager wants to change his pitcher 4 times in one inning, let him. If he wants to position all 7 infielders and outfielders on a line between 1B and 2B, let him. THere are pluses and minuses to both these strategies, and when the minuses outrank the pluses, everything returns to normal.

Want to speed up games? ENFORCE THE EXISTING RULES FOR THE TIME A PITCHER HAS TO THROW A PITCH!!

Also, stop allowing teams to call up their entire 40 man roster come September 1. I know this is partially in place, but why allow even the 2 extra players? What other sport does this? You get 26 players. If your team is out of it and you want to see some younger kid get a debut to evaluate him against MLB, or to instill some excitement in a very bored fanbase, cut someone and make room for him. You get 26 roster spots! Even allowing 14 pitchers is too many. No one needs a 9 man bullpen for any game. Not even Bruce Bochy.

And how does this rule affect the Angels? Does Shohei Otani count as a pitcher? Or some of the other 2 way players, like Mike Lorenzen and Jake Cronenworth? What's the ruling here? Will tems start allowing some of the younger two way college players to maintain both roles so as to take advantage of this rule?

f***ing ridiculous rule changes.

1. Just make it 26 players all season long. Or keep 25. Both are fine and I won't quibble about a roster spot.

2. And enforce the existing pitch clock rules.

And see if that alone does not accomplish the goal..

lets talk the 2020 baseball. the actual ball. do you guys think it will be another version of the Manfred Missile? or do you think they back off of that and return the ball to 2018 level?

God knows. Manfred is really starting to give off a clueless clown vibe.

Calling the championship trophy a 'piece of metal' - nice job, Robbie boy!

”Manfred Missile” I like it. Did you come up with it?

calling it a "piece of metal" when talking about the World Series Trophy should be instantly fireable offense for the commissioner of baseball....

https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/new-pickoff-rule-coming-to-minors-after-indy-ball-success-in-2019/

Major League Baseball is in the final stages of finalizing a plan that will change pickoff rules for a significant portion of the minor leagues.

Two farm directors confirmed that they have been told that when the 2020 season begins, MiLB pitchers will be required to step off the rubber before they can throw to a base on a pickoff attempt. As such, the new rule will eliminate the Andy Pettitte-style pickoff move where a lefty hangs on his back leg before either stepping toward first base and throwing over or stepping toward home to pitch. Inside moves at second base are also prohibited by the rule change.

Deciding at which levels the rule will be enforced has not been finalized, although the expectation is that it will at least cover Class A and below, and it is possible it will include Double-A. The Florida State League is set to use automated ball-strike calls (ABS) at a majority of its parks for 2020, and there is some thought that the pickoff rule is at least tangentially related to ABS.

This pickoff rule was enacted for the independent Atlantic League (which implemented rule changes at MLB’s request) last season at that league’s all-star break, at the same time that the league began using an automated strike zone fueled by Trackman data to call balls and strikes.

MLB officials said at the time of the rule change in the Atlantic League that they hoped such a move would encourage more basestealing. It also was seen as having a balancing effect. Since catchers no longer have to worry about framing pitches with a computer calling balls and strikes, there has been some concern that they can set up and receive in a better position to throw.

In the Atlantic League last year, the pickoff rule change did lead to a dramatic increase in stolen base attempts. Stolen bases attempts went from 1.03 per game in the first half of the season before the rule change to 1.69 per game in the second half of the season with the rule change. The success rate also increased. Atlantic League basestealers were successful 75 percent of the time in the first half and 81 percent of the time in the second half.

Double plays also dropped from .82 per game to .63 per game with the new rules. According to coaches in the Atlantic League, runners could almost always get enough of a lead to make it much harder to turn two on anything other than a ball hit right at an infielder.

With the current year change to how long relievers have to stay in a game. Could you put a RHP in LF to start an inning with a LHP on the mound then swap back and forth based on who is up to bat? Sure, you'd have an absolute donkey in LF, but could that be better than having a LOOGY intentionally walk a RHB guy or pitch to one straight up?

teams can 100% do this. the pitchers swapping back and forth will not be given warmup pitches and must finish the batter that the start pitching to (except in case of injury).

Angels need to pair Ohtani with a LHP that is capable in the field. Have the LHP start the game. Then rotate him and Ohtani throughout the game (that way Ohtani can bat and you don't lose the DH).

I thought pitchers had to face 3 batters before they could be removed.

does playing a different position in the field count? not sure. if BB was a coach in MLB certainly this gray area would be tested.

They aren't being removed from the game. They are just going elsewhere on the field.

Yeah, I get that, but it all depends on how the new rule is worded, I think.
