Moreland more than earns his keep out there defensively. He's made what... three... four...outstanding plays in this series?

Thanks for that one, DD

Hah, Brett Gardner grounds into a DP to secure the Marlins win, and 9 games up by Boston

Couldn't have happened to a better guy. :D

It's astounding how badly the Yankems play against the shittier teams in the league. In fact, they were lucky to win last night. And the Yankems play a lot of s***** teams between now and the end of the season. What should be an advantage for them appears to be just the opposite. Love it.

When Nunez plays 3rd and Kinsler's on 2nd, the SOX infield defense is excellent.

Brasier making a serious bid for the set up role. Great snag by Moreland saved trouble

I think Cora wants Brasier to be that guy or one of them. He is certainly testing him. Pom is already a fail and I continue to believe Hembree has no post season role. Kelly probably does not have one either unless we need somebody to try to plunk somebody.

Bitch bitch bitch.

To read the past two pages ( as I did ) one could get the idea that the Sox lost this game because the pen is s*** and we are f***ed come playoff time because of it.

I am not worried about our pen.

I am not worried about the Sox at all ( aside from Sale's inflamed bursa sack ).

Lighten-up and enjoy the ride.

Jeepers.

Not sure anybody is not enjoying the ride. However how that enjoyment takes shape is up to each individual fan. I will make a similar comment here that I made to another poster the other night. It is beyond rude to define fandom and the shape it takes for anybody but yourself. What we take from our fandom is what we take each to our own. I know fans that make a night at Fenway the equivalent of a night at the opera with little concern for which team wins the actual game they are attending. It is up to each and every one of us to define fandom for ourselves and for nobody else.

jung, two long-time Sox fans called you out. Sounds more like you have a problem about quite probably a 105-win team. I'm enjoying everything. I told an Guardians fan who was gloating, "we beat you twice in a row!", I said: "hey, win all 4, get it out of the Sox system." That's because the team won't lose 4 in a row and responded with 3 HRs and a 10-spot, which pretty much is why this team just keeps staying on a roll, consistent and winning. This is a special Sox team, no guarantee on winning a WS, but all the components to do so. Zero complaints.

Ah yes lets have an effort at shaming to go along with trying to define fandom for other fans. Why am I not surprised.

I have an idea for you. This is an open forum that flies under the banner-head "Talk Sox". Why don't you start a forum called Root for Sox or Cheer for Sox or Sox Fanboys because you clearly don't want to talk about the Sox. See how many forum members you draw to the rather drool exercising of circle jerking yourselves to death every night because by definition there will be no discussion of the Sox no "talking" about the Sox allowed on your forum.

Call it perspective. Team is 50 games over .500...50...80-1 in games they lead after 8 innings or something ridiculous like that, but hey the bullpen sucks, and the Sox catchers can't hit, and Brian Johnson is terrible (but keeps being involved in Sox wins), and Cora can't manage in game situations. Whatever.

By the way, I was far more critical of Sox teams way before you were born.

I am supposed to care about that? You appear to know more about me than you could guess from a forum. You have no idea how old I am or how long I have been a Sox fan and neither my term or yours as a Sox fan are in any way meaningful.

It is when all you dealt with was gloom and doom like I did for a lot of years. Now I'm going to enjoy a winning dominant team...it doesn't happen often. I'm very pleased with this team and find very little to whine about it.

I will defend your right to your view of fandom even though you are rude enough to criticize mine.

jung, you have all the right and freedom to criticize the Sox, no problem. Just saying this is one of the few Sox teams that pretty much wins like those 14-2 Pats teams.

There can be no doubt that John Henry era both ended the 86 year curse and brought remarkable prosperity to the Boston Red Sox in the multi-team playoffs era in which no one franchise is able to dominate the way the Yankees used to. MLB went to four postseason teams in 1969 and eight in 1994 and an extra wild card team in I think 2012. Given the overall balance of MLB teams--in a typical year a 60% winning percentage means 97 wins and a likely division win and certainly a ticket to the postseason--this expansion of the postseason has made winning the WS that much more unpredictable. Simple math tells you the Yankees will never dominate MLB again the way they did when just two teams went to the postseason.

This Sox team could well be the best Sox team ever, but the Cleveland series now ongoing demonstrates just how daunting the 2018 postseason is likely to be. I believe it was Kimmi on this thread who said that much depends on when you play a team and in this case the Guardians have been hot in August. Like us, they have good hitting--not as good, but good--and probably better pitching. And pretty good fielding and an experienced manager who knows how to win.

Last night demonstrated, however, that the Sox are not without resources, and Price is starting today with a good shot at evening the series at 2 all.

I frankly was astounded by the rally in the 4th and had intended in the 2d inning to post something to the effect, "all is lost." Thus I do believe these Sox are different from last year's version even though a lot of the faces are the same.

A team that comes in and plays in Opposing Teams Park, and wins 1st, 2 games and end up in a split, doesn't look good. Sox should be playing loosey goosey, more pressure on the Guardians this afternoon.

Time for David to have many eat Humble Pie this afternoon, and kick ass.

The bases-loaded double by Beni last night was pretty sweet. He took a slider low in the zone and carved it into the left field corner. Eck talks about painting by pitchers. That was painting by a hitter.

Agreed. And you don’t always post the sky is falling. Keep enjoying the ride

I don’t disagree with any of this but will contend that the Game Thread is a place where bitching about a call / play / at bat / base running error / manager decision is pretty common. We all do it. Game threads are usually 50% bitching / 50% cheering / 50% neither. (Y Berra math)

slash, my problem is that I used to post in the old Globe room during games and it was legit!! Meaning, the managerial moves, the dumb lineups, the poor use of bad relievers, the failing on certain hitters who were trotted out into the same batting spots thus allowing them to fail and fail again (think Darren Lewis way back). And those games turned into?? LOSSES....And here we have this team that wins, and wins, and wins, and wins and wins. It doesn't matter what they do, they win. It's a great team. And again, I totally understand that it's meant to be allowed to bitch, vent, etc...it's good therapy for jung, I'm sure. I'm laughing at it because of the team's ridiculously good success compared to when we used to bitch about teams that were really a bitch-fest every game. It's a perspective thing. But no way am I trying to put a damp cloth on this particular part of the room.
