Because both Kelly and Barnes throw so many pitches to complete an inning, they can very seldom be used for two innings.

Good point. They are good but not great. beware the playoffs.

First run given up by Red Sox BP in a good number of innings (15+ ??). This one is on the hitters

The SOX have faced two damn good pitchers the last two games. Sometimes one has to grudgingly tip the cap to them. Also, the SOX had some bad luck on a few hard hit balls tonight.

If we are lucky that is going to end up being a massive stinger for X. That looked like it was off the knuckles and that big bone on the wrist which can feel like you would like somebody to cut the hand off for about a minute...just take the damned thing off if its going to feel like this.

I think we all could use a day off tomorrow.

I got a fortune cookie today that had that saying in it. All I could do after reading it was nod in acceptance.

A takeaway from tonight is that Swihart has to be an integral part of the team. His was excellent behind the plate and hit better than a lot of Sox players. Right now he seems to hit better than either Leon or Vasquez so there will be an interesting decision going forward.

A second takeaway is that Kinsler is an improvement at 2nd base defensively and his hitting looked better than some.

If not for the misplay by the CF in game one, the Phillies would have won both games.

The Phillies are tough. It was a little troubling to see the Red Sox offense struggle so much against playoff caliber pitching, the kind of pitching the Red Sox will see in the playoffs. They need to figure out ways to score runs against that kind of pitching, something they couldn't do in this series.

When the Red Sox and Yankees meet up, the Yankees should be 4.5 out.

Pomeranz survived, but he actually pitched like crap -- base runners every inning, walks every inning. When you pitch like that, you will give up more than 2 runs most of the time.

No doubt that SWI provides much more offensive tools than either Sandy or VAZ, but Cora will go back to Sandy catching. Mainly because he feels his starters are more comfortable with Sandy catching. I could see SWI catching Eovaldi and Johnson. Unfortunately, I have no say in the matter. Maybe SWI will get more games at 3rd.

I don't think the Phillies are tough. The SOX just had the misfortune of facing their two best pitchers, who were both at the top of their game.

95 pitches 50 for strikes. Wow.

E-Rod needs to return so we don't have to keep sending Pomeranz out there. It doesn't look as if Wright is close to returning either.

Pom wasn’t the reason they lost. He pitched fine.

2 runs over 5 innings is ok for a 5th starter. That’s what we say about ERod anyway.

Agree--and I am anti-Pom. The problem was the hitting: 0 for 13 with RISP. I'm pretty sure we twice had leadoff doubles which didn't score. And some hard hit balls that were caught of course.

2 runs for 5 innings is OK I guess, for 5th starter, but with those numbers not spending 8.5 Million, to kill my BP. 4 BB's in 5 innings will eventually bite you in the ass.

0-3 for Kinsler with RISP.
