Yanks lose, Yanks lose.

Good old Chasen Shreve. Sadly, I don't think he's going to be with the club much longer. I wouldn't be surprised if today is it for him.

The Yankees fans just have to realize that the bottom of their lineup isn't that good. There's no way they can carry that into the playoffs. That team needs some major changes immediately if they're going to be contenders. Their pitching staff struggles, their BP gives up too many runs, heck, that team just got swept by the RAYS! LOL

Now if I could just find a Yankees forum to post this on......

LOL :0 Turnabout is in fact fair play.

I take credit for this win. Was dog tired as I come to the back side of my landscape renewal. 8 hrs a day the past 10 days, al HOT. Planned to take the morning off, kick back, & watch the Sox. I figured it would be a great game with SALE, but as the pre-game began, I had this feeling that if I watched it would all go wrong.

You're welcome.

Got a lot done, but now I can't move. ;)

: Pretty much. His stuff is the same. He didn't start throwing harder did he?

So, only hard throwers are ever successful in MLB?

The Yankee 7-9 hitters ended up 2 for 15 today- making it 7 for 55 recently. That's down to .127.

Gary Sanchez to the DL.

The falling apart has begun.

Panic time.

Fire sale!

The Yankees getting swept by the Rays is a beautiful thing.

The way Sale pitched today is even more beautiful.

Good for JBJ and his 3 hits.

Woohoo!

I'm watching the Phillies/Nats game and it appears over the last couple of years Bryce Harper at the plate has become Chris Davis.

Funny I feel the same way not that he is Davis but boy is he getting that look at the plate way more often .

The game was scoreless in the middle of the fifth when I popped into an 11:15 am church service. When I exited an hour later, the Red Sox were up 5-0.

Some prayers go unanswered.:)

Some kid was probably praying for his grandma not to die and you just shortstopped him!

It is almost a truism that winning game threads are shorter than losing game threads. Last night was a triumph for Sale and the lineup and it "tied" the Sox with the Yankees in the AL East and stayed even with the Astros for the most wins in MLB, 52. The point is, not much to complain about therefore not much to say. Good news is so boring.

Of course the game thread about the 14-10 win in game 1 vs. Seattle is 28 pages because there were lots of things to talk about in that one and not just the great comeback. Wright giving up 10 was worth 10 pages by itself, especially when you throw in the discussion about Cora (to which I contributed my share because I was so darn mad).

Also game threads can take on different lives depending on what topic comes up. Sometimes banal, but often interesting.

This one should continue if only because there is no game until tomorrow night.

Weekend daygame threads are usually shorter. Even the shut ins occasionally venture outside for fresh air. If this had been a weeknight game the gamethread would have been much longer for the exact same game.

Boston Globe columnist Nick Cafardo suggests that the Red Sox and Mariners could meet again in October:

https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2018/06/24/early-for-wild-card-talk-but-red-sox-could-see-seattle-again/jlG9fNJqLvCz2nrEc5WxeP/story.html?event=event12

Unfortunately, I can't access the Cafardo column.

I seriously think Seattle is hanging on by a thread. Like one of your crazy relatives that is fairly sedated, but could lose it at any time if the meds go wrong. I give them a month at best.

It's still June, so Nick is jumping the gun, true, but we are just 4 games ahead of Seattle in the wild card and Seattle is 7 games ahead of LA.

The larger point is being a wild card team, period. It's dangerous because getting to the ALDS requires a one game playoff, and meanwhile the ALDS opponent is busily lining up its rotation.

Seattle is now at a mere +12 run differential. They have no business being in the same conversation as the Astros, the Red Sox, or the Yankees.

That said, they have a good chance of making the wildcard game because of the lack of competition after the above 3 teams and Cleveland.

Exactly. I would also agree that we are the better team by a fair margin, but the point is that a one game wild card playoff can go either way.

By adding that 5th team to the playoffs in each league, MLB now has 1/3 of their 30 teams making it to the POSTSEASON which presumably increases fan interest and attendance in August and September. To make it work, however, they have greatly elevated the importance of winning a division--even a weak division--and not having to play a single game playoff.

To me 4 teams (1 wild card) in each league made more sense.

I kind of like the fact that winning the division has become more important. IMO, the division winner should have an easier road to the playoffs than a wildcard winner. The problem is with the disparity between the divisions. There is something inherently wrong with a possible 100+ game winner being a wildcard team while a division winner in another division might only win 90 games. Honestly, I don't know what solution is.

It's a wild card. Teams are lucky to even have a shot at winning it all despite not winning their division.

For many many years, if you failed to win the division, it was all over. You could have been the second best in MLB with no chance.

I have no issue with the play-in game. A 3 game series makes sense, but making the other teams wait and maybe get rusty outweighs the gain.

In the NBA, 16 of 30 teams make the playoffs.

In the NHL, 16 of 31 teams make it.

In the NFL, 12 out of 32 make it.

Correct, but that was when there were only 2 divisions in each league. When they expanded to 3 divisions in each league they added the wild card.

The problem with 3 divisions in each league is that you have some weak divisions and cheap winners.

There's no justice in a team winning a division with 85 wins while a team with 100 wins plays a Wild Card game.

It's not a good system.
