50 wins

As frustrating as the last couple of games have been, you really can't complain about a 6-4 road trip that includes the west coast. And 50 wins.

Pretty much as perfect as a game as it gets. Offense was outstanding and so was Porcello!!

Thank goodness the offense finally showed up!

Best moment of the game: Mookie waving around his index card that tells him where to position himself after being perfectly positioned on Mauer's well hit ball to right center.

I don't really know how important this is in the scheme of things, but the SOX have played 10 more away games than the Yankems at this point.

You would think it will become an advantage, as would winning 6 or 7 in a row, while the Yankees lose 2 of 3 but neither of those are happening right now. They just finished spanking the Mariners in NY. So for comparison check the results of Mariners-Red Sox series Sunday evening.

The Y's have also played 6 more home games than the Sox have. Given that short porch in YS and the team built to take advantage of it the Y's could falter a little on the road where they have to play in real stadiums.

And still 5 games away from the mid way point of the season.

They get to 92 wins if they go .500 the rest of the way.

I don't like the tone the "inflammation" discussion has taken on Pedey lately. I am worried that knee is going to shut Pedey down more than somebody deciding it for him. Really more disappointed for Pedey than I am for us just because he deserves better.

I know this is going to sound odd, but Porcello does this so many times it really is fun to watch as long he does not give up too many runs early. I get a kick out of him going from meh early in games to an absolute monster in the middle innings. He does it enough times that it is worth looking forward to again with the caveat that he can't give up so much early that he really puts the game in jeopardy before we can get our feet under us. I don't know why it happens with Rick. it surely happens enough that its noticeable.

It hasn't always been this way with Rick.

Career OPS against by inning:

.734 1st

.690 2nd

.736 3rd

.820 4th

.729 5th

.795 6th

.688 7th

.707 8th (just 133 PAs)

.297 9th (just 24 PAs)

2018

.788 1st

.641 2nd

.622 3rd

.669 4th

.546 5th

.606 6th

.703 7th

1.167 8th (6 PAs)

He's been basically lights out from innings 2-6 with the 7th not being bad at all.

It’s not my knee, it’s them!

No stop that. The dude deserves a bit of respect I would think. Not sure why a person who showed up at work and gave his best needs to be trashed. The jokes lost on me.

I have the ultimate respect for Pedey and what he brings to the field. I always have and always will. However, we don't see or hear much of what comes out of the clubhouse. Different players have different attitudes and I have to admit that I wasn't impressed by "It's not me, it's them". IMO a functional clubhouse has a "we" and not a "me and them" in it.

I absolutely understand having a problem with Pedroia saying that in public. That whole situation was a mess. And I think Farrell made matters worse by doing nothing, just as he did with the Price-Eckersley debacle.

This really belongs on the other thread, though.

Looked back to May 1, almost 2 full months, and the Sox have won 4 games in a row 4 times since then but never 5 or more . While it would be great to win 4 of 5 consistently , that hasn't happened. So they find themselves 2 down in the standings , being all 4 games in the loss column. The home schedule surplus needs to be taken advantage of.
