He's not a great base stealer, but he is a smart runner and definitely has above average speed. His stolen base percentage is very good, and scoring on that fly ball to RF that wasn't deep showed some speed.

Agree he is a good baserunner and probably has above average speed. A deep fly to right at Fenway would allow Sandy Leon to score from 3B, maybe on one leg. But not Daniel Nava who, I swear, one time did not advance from 2B on a drive off the wall in right to right center field at Fenway. In fact, at the moment it hit the wall, he was sliding--yes, sliding--back to 2b.

Yes he contributed. But he has proven how stubborn he is about his swing. It took 500 of the worst AB's in a row in history in 2014 before he would finally relent and listen to somebody. Honestly, they need his glove out there because Beni is no CFer. But if he does not at least improve to the point of being able to afford to put him into the everyday lineup, its an issue. Coddling won't help that. He has already proven that coddling him through these won't help him.

Insisting that his hitting is going to just come back when he is not even seeing the ball to the plate is simply wishful thinking IMO.

I understand what your trying to say. Your last sentence isn’t me though. I only need him to get 1 measly single every 10 ab’s and he is my starting CFer. He’s already 70 points above my threshold so I’m good with the k’s or whatever. His defense is that important to me.

Yes. This is the importance of outfield defense. It will prevent runs and win ballgames. It’s not all about slg %

If the Sox can get Beni and Devers to mature just a bit faster than we should expect, I doubt the Yankee batting order has much to talk about over this batting order...maybe still a bit better at the bottom. But this one might actually end up better 1-6.

Jung your absolutely right ...Id like us to match at the Catchers position also but that needs a trade .

Possibly, but Mookie also is very good at literally everything. So that's not a knock.

That was classic. Showalter got to the mound before XBo got to the plate! :D

That was nuts. I don’t ever remember seeing that before

Kevin Gausman is really good. He only allowed 5 stolen bases, all uncontested, and 6 runs. Good game buddy.

I believe that is exactly what Buck said to him as he crossed the third baseline to remove him before Bogey even crossed home plate

A700 you are kind of a lucky charm ...you kind of owe it to the Nation to hit say 70 more games up ???

I gave season tickets, but living in NY cuts down on the number of games that I get to see at Fenway.

Last season, between me and Youk, we had unbelievable at the game mojo. I only saw one loss out of 9 or 10. Unfortunately, it was the final playoff game, and we thought we pulled it out when Beny took Verlander deep.

I think they are a lot better in the bottom third, but that our top six are better than theirs. If Moreland is in our lineup vs. righties, we have 7 pretty good bats even though Devers is struggling a little.

I never thought I would say this but it’s nice to listen to Eck after spending the last 3 games with gomes

I love Eck

I like the mojo, but I also like the in the ballpark commentary.

His line is 171/253/256/520.

Hard to support that with struggling catchers that are also giving us nothing in a league with a DH. You can't send two guys to the plate 3-4 times a game that are actually like having two pitchers hitting when every other team you play has no pitchers hitting. That is a tailor made defensive specialist if JBJ keeps this up and you have to have a catcher.

I said earlier this year that Vaz was helping us support JBJ's struggles at the plate. That has sort of gone out the window. So now JBJ just has to get better. If the Vaz/Leon combo improves they can support JBJ's struggles though I am not really convinced that actually helps JBJ the player. Always thought I was providing my own "temporary" rationalization for keeping JBJ in the lineup. But this bottom of the order can't go on all season. It will become too easy for opponent pitchers to tactically treat innings like NL pitchers treat innings.

So far, this is one of the best Sox starter performances this year-- 62 pitches in 6 innings. Quite a contrast from like the last 15 games or more. And Price can do a Verlander just when we need it.

I think they should fire Buck for his mental health. They are going to carry him off in a straight jacket at this rate.

Dude! Eck is THE MAN!"

Straight, albeit articulate, Boston talk. ;)

Eck is a giant!

Oh my God..this is tailor made to drive Buck right through the roof. Cora resting JD to bat Swihart in the 6th inning of a game. I wonder if Cora sticks with that idea next inning when JD should lead off.

Yeah! Ain't it great??

That f***er has taken so many backhanded swipes at the Red Sox that I don't care if he gets raped by a group of homeless people and left for dead. f*** him.

Figuratively speaking, of course. :)

I thought I'd try anyway.

See now, I completely agree with the frustration of JBJ's SHYTE season at the plate, but 'THINK' he will return, EVENTUALLY ........, to his .245 -.255 avg., the last 3 years, .780 - .790 OPS.

We've weathered this storm on JBJ every year, the last 3 years.
