See now I saw hardly anything that indicated JBJ was trying to go oppo in that AB and you are not going to cure what really ails him now that the season has started. Getting him to go oppo is just about the only thing you can do quickly and see if that gets him to quiet his head. I would not have put him back in the lineup just so he can prove how damned stubborn he is.

Maybe we will see something in the next AB.

Keeping in mind that I don't pretend to be a hitting instructor... when I was coaching (or in a slump myself) I used to believe that the best way to get out of a slump is to hit your way out of it. Don't get fancy, just try to hit the ball HARD, SOMEPLACE.

Maybe it was coincidence, but it worked.

jbj and both catchers are literally automatic out territory. when I think were just a better team with moreland out there, jd in lf, beni in center and big dick mook in right field. jbj is so bad at the plate that whatever he does defensively is useless. we cant do anything about our s***** catchers, but we have in house replacement for jbj.

First MLB start by Orioles catcher Susac.

I don't think that's true. I believe he was on Giants during one of their world series teams. I remember hearing his name.

we still need more than under .200 average, with no obp or power. his defense could be best in league but its not worth that s***** bat. we can sign jarrod dyson for league minimum to do better than jbj does.

Nice grab by JBJ plus quick throw to the infield to keep the runner on 1B.

This is starting to remind me of our old pal Pumpsie Greene. He used to almost hope a Red Sox player would fail so he could post about how bad that player is and how right Pumpsie was.

We don’t talk about him here.

No but I get the biggest Dick award ....I can admit this ...it's part of my 12 step program .I do love the Redsox but not every player deserves to wear the uni .

I would not have a problem with that but JBJ is clearly losing the ball way out in front of the plate which is why his bat is generally nowhere near the ball when he swings. You can see it just from what his head does in the swing. He can't possibly see the ball to the bat. I just don't see how trying to hit it hard will work for him when his problem is so basic to hitting the ball at all. If he takes a measured swing trying to go oppo he might be able to work out of it mid-season like this. If not I am afraid that what he hits will be pure luck.

There's a lot of that going on when a player is in a slump. What it does is takes all the pressure off to get a hit and lets the player concentrate on making solid contact. I'm thinking that if making contact is all JBJ had to worry about he might make a few (more) outs but at least he'd be developing the habit of hitting the ball... which is something he's not good at now. Once you start making solid contact the hits will follow.

Agreed...going oppo is actually about the best way there is to do that quickly because you have to stay on the ball and you have to get your hands inside. It also prevents the hitter from trying to pull the ball which is about the best way to stay in a slump if you are in one. In HR happy MLB the incentive is to pull whether you get a pitch to pull or not. Makes it hard to work out of a slump if you are in one.
