Very close game. One that could have been a blowout on paper.

I predicted a blowout and could not be happier to be wrong. A lot of good things in this game. It was great we tied it, but I honestly thought before the game that the Yankees had the better bullpen, and they sure did tonight. Theirs gave up 0 walks in the 3 innings, and our gave up 3 in 2 innings.

Do you? Vaz had a very hard hit single tonight while Bogie and Devers just flailed away at the ball. Swihart has a lower OPS this year than Vazquez. What I will agree on is wondering why the heck Swihart is on the roster and not playing when literally everyone else is.

I've always kind of assumed Swihart, if given a long look, would prove to be a better hitter than Vaz, but I certainly don't know for sure. I trust Sox management to know more than I do.

I know Moreland normally struggles vs lefties, but I'd have liked to have seen him PH for JBJ or Vaz.

Strangely, the only way JBJ can get on base anymore is by getting HBP.

The hitting coach says JBJ is close, but I sure don't see it. I think Swihart probably is a better hitter than Vazquez, given enough at bats, but I don't think he was a better choice tonight. I too would have liked to see Moreland out there, Hanley at DH, JD in LF, and Beni in CF with JBJ on the bench.

You betcha, and before the game I predicted he would get killed by that Yankee lineup.

Want a silver lining to this game. This is it and it's huge. Especially with the notice that Price may be down.

When Swi was catching, it was clear none of the pitchers were buying his act. He was needlessly cocky, and they simply didn't trust him.

Excellent athlete, who thinks that should carry him.

It's clear the Sox are done with him.

Needlessly cocky is why Blake is froze out lol ....love it .

Funny. I never thought Swi looked cocky. I always thought he never could look like he belonged in the big show. Even doing so he looked like he kindof sortof managed the pitching staff where you look for a catcher to be a leader. At this point I can't even pull the "I know more than the Sox staff" stuff or argue against what he has showed when he has been given a chance. They are super down on the guy and there has to be a reason. He slapped some really nice hits the year he was up and looked to me like he had really good ability at the plate. But if they aren't pitch hitting him for Vaz at crucial moments.......... he's done with this team.

Needlessly cocky? Swihart? I do agree that when you are using just about everybody else on the team and not him it kind of looks like a waste of roster space to us.

Second longest game thread of the year, the longest being the Yankees game we lost when the benches erupted, as did talksox, after Bogie got spiked and Kelly plunked the miscreant.

There are no good losses, but Pom was definitely a plus last night, and, really, so was the lineup that scored 2 off of Severino with help from the guy who relieved Severino. Hembree blew it, but Kelly wasn't that impressive either. Devers error did not hurt, but his bat did.

'Twas Holt got spiked.

Cora will be fired if he continues to play JBJ and Vaz ...two of the worst hitters ever in a RedSox uniform

As someone who's been following the Red Sox since the 80s ... yeah, we really have some people out to a rough start.

Vazquez - .196 BA, .492 OPS

Lin - .188 BA, .528 OPS

JBJ - .173 BA, .528 OPS

Swihart - .160 BA, .450 OPS

Leon - .154 BA, .445 OPS

Anybody hitting below .200 BA or .550 OPS I don't think can stay on the roster of an MLB team for long. By mid-June I think if any of these players are still hitting this poorly they will go.

Well, Lin is already back in the minors. None of the others can be sent down. And you would get rid of all 3 catchers? Not sure who they have at Pawtucket, but I doubt any of them is the answer.

Agreed, catching is a problem. I'd like to think that if Swihart played regularly his average would go up, but I could be completely wrong.
