Harper's issues are as much luck as roster construction. His BABIP is .208. That's incredibly low. His walk rate is up compared to last year because Zimmerman is down right now and cannot protect him. This is leading him to chase more out of the zone and seeing his K rate rise. Harper is trying too hard, is what it comes down to. Maybe they could stack he and Soto (although no manager likes to stack lefties) and give Harper some protection. That should help with getting him some strikes to swing at

German dominated the M’s. The offense came out en force. Heck, even Sanchez made good contact (hardest hit ball this season was a line out). This German kid has sick stuff and when he locates, he will dominate. Here’s to hoping for more out of this kid going forward

I hate tiny sample sizes, but I have to throw this out there....

Last 2 games bottom 7-9 batting slots' OPS numbers:

Yankees 1 for 19

Red Sox 11 for 28

The tide is turning.

:P

How the hell can we not score more than 1 run vs the Rays pen. Oh well. CC walked a tightrope. The pen dominated.

The Rays are not an easy team to score runs against, especially at their home dump.

Over their last 10 the Rays have allowed only 27 runs, and that includes 4 at your place and 3 in Houston. I don't know how they do it, but they do it. Their offense is abysmal, needless to say.

Blind squirrels find nuts every now and then

It's been more than just 2 games, Jacko.

Our bottom 3 in the order have been improving for over a month. Everyone but Holt has been way under their career or recent 2-3 year norms. Why is it so hard to think they might come back to the norm with more than half a season to go?

Besides, they all don't have to get their seasonal OPS above .700 to make a big impact. If they all can combine to just hit .700 the rest of the wat, that would be an over 100 point gain on what they've done, so far on a team that is already leading MLB in runs scored.

Yes, we may not end up with 4 guys over .900 as we currently have- or 5 guys over .840, but as they drop, the bottom 3 or 4 can easily take up the slack and appear to be heading in that direction for quite some time (with just JBJ & Nunez still struggling).

Even a combined .700 the rest of the way would be below norms. I don't think I'm being a homer to expect it. BTW, I also expect Stanton & Sanchez to revert to their norms, so it's not about homerism.

Tampa actually has a really good record when they aren't playing Sox or Yankees. That weird bullpens strategy, along with Blake Snell developing into an ace has made Tampa very annoying to play against.

They sucked early in the year.

Yes, but they started out against some tough opponents.

12 of their first 15 games were against the Sox, Yanks and Phillies.

1-6 vs BOS

0-2 vs NYY

0-3 vs PHI

1-11 Total

No, he can’t. It’s time to stop thinking about lefty-righty garbage. We’ve got a kid down in the minors with flames coming out of his hand. It’s time to bring up Cody Carroll

Shreve is a stiff. Their rookie infielders look like the real deal. Except for the overhyped Bird. Not so sure about the rookie pitchers. Starting pitching is a big question mark. You are welcome for my expert analysis. It will be a long , tough pennant race. By the way , can Boone answer one question without using the phrases " a little bit " or " kind of " ?

So I see that Frazier hit a ball in the 9th that might have been a game-winning homer for the Yanks but the ball hit a speaker and was caught for an out.

Tropicana Field, what a disgrace to the game.

What a s***** weekend. Glad I didn't have the opportunity to watch any baseball. And that ball that Frazier hit off of a speaker was horse s***. Maybe place the speakers somewhere outside of fair territory???

Also this is a pretty interesting stat:

Yankees Bullpen Last 18 Games (since June 5):

Chasen Shreve: 6.1 IP, 5 R, 3 HR

Rest of team: 54 IP, 0 R, 0 HR

Seems like a DFA is in order. The guy is a LOOGY with a reverse split. So why bother keeping him around? I'd much rather have Carroll up or even keep Lasagna in the bullpen once Tanaka gets back.

He’s entirely unnecessary. If we’re going to have a lefty to balance out a righty heavy squad, at least have one that can get lefties out.

I forgot about Kahnle. His last 7 appearances he’s been dominant. 7.2IP 5H 3BB 15K. If he can locate, you gotta go with him

I am glad Kimmi isn’t watching the Yankee game tonight. David Cone is on a rant sermonizing about random variance in baseball. If she heard him, she might become a Yankee fan or send Cone a fan letter.

Loaisiga was dominant. He’s only really a 5 inning pitcher right now as he’s building innings, but his first 5 were awesome. The lineup woke up a little. The pen bent but didn’t break. Good to see a W after the TB house of horrors

Ha. Actually, I did watch the game. Unfortunately, or fortunately?, I had the Phillies feed. I really would have liked to hear Cone's rant though.

OTOH, I now know why the Yankees pitching has been so good. They're cheaters, trying to use scuffed up balls to pitch with. LOL David Robertson, I'm looking at you.
