If Pedey wasn't such a terrible runner, he'd be the perfect lead off guy all day.

I hope he can regain the pop he had in 2016.

What's our highest OBP guy doing hitting 8th?

Well, he's on the DL.

I put him 8th, because that's where Marco will hit. My guess is that if Pedey returns to form, he'll move up to the 1 or 2 slot. If not, he may bat 6th or 7th.

A lot depends on how the rest of our batters are doing when he returns.

If you get JD, I’d deploy the following

Pre Pedey return

1. Benintendi

2. Betts

3. Martinez

4. Devers

5. Bogaerts

6. Moreland/Ramirez

7. JBJ

8. Vasquez

9. 2b

If Pedey returns

1. Pedroia

2. Benintendi

3. Betts

4. Martinez

5. Devers

6. Bogaerts

7. Moreland/Ramirez

8. JBJ

9. Vasquez

I am not optimistic that Pedroia can be counted on the play many more games for the Red Sox. The procedure he went through has an awful track record. His knee is shot.

Yeah. Thanks, Manny. Maybe we should reward Manny with a multi-million dollar contract. Ugh.

His $6M value is worth more keeping.

It's what we'd get for JBJ that would be the reason to trade him.

Dombrowski is apparently trying to trade Hanley. He'll have to eat most of the contract, but he should be able to save a few million there anyway. Not that I'm ready to trade Hanley, but if it comes down to losing Hanley or losing JBJ, I'd prefer to lose Hanley.

Yes, and since JBJ's projected salary is just $6M, if we can save about that much by trading HRam, it's a clear no-brainer-- trade HRam NOT JBJ.

In fact, I'd prefer to just give HRam away and play $21M or his $22M plus cover the same on the pending vesting option than trade 3 years of JBJ away.

The one drawback is that if we sign JD, give HRam away and keep JBJ we likely will have nothing left to add to our pitching staff. Trading JBJ for a SP'er of equal salary would help in that area.

It’s a difficult position for dave. In order to bring in JD, he needs to move Hanley.

Selling low on any player is tough, but one coming off offseason shoulder surgery is even harder.

Ps: the twins really need to call dave. Hanley would be a dh upgrade for them and they could probably get dave to foot most of the bill.

DD boxed himself into this corner by signing Moreland. HRAM could have played 1B with JD at DH. IF HRam got hurt or sucked, we could have traded for a 1Bman easily. It's the simplest trade in MLB.

Miguel Sano will likely spend most of 2018 as the DH in MIN. He’s worlds better than Hanley

Uh, wut? I don't think he boxed himself in at all. Finding a replacement DH is even easier than finding a 1b that can field the position.

We have a $22M DH who could have played 1B. If we really are serious about getting JD, we're "boxed" into having to trade JBJ or dumping HRam... all so we could bring back Moreland.

YUCK!

The real question is, "Is Moreland better than HRam?"

I think that he is.

No doubt Hanley WAS a far superior player with his hitting and speed. But now he is old, too muscular, and in questionable health. His defense is passable at 1st.

Moreland is what he is. A low OBP guy that rips the s*** out of the ball when he hits it. He also plays pretty good defense. Overall I expect Moreland to contribute more than Hanley on a consistent basis.

He also costs less than 1/3 of Hanley.

Stupid Ben signed two declining players to bloated long term contracts. That is why this team is in this situation again.

Dump HRam in ST. It's only a 1 year hit for the salary.

Plus a useless Rusney Castillo. Remember trading a top end starter for Allen Craig? Woof.

Dombrowski has cleared out a lot of prospects, but don't @ me until he starts making the bad Ben deals.

Thing is, we're paying HRam already- Moreland was a choice. We didn't need both, unless we are not signing JD.

Not, if he vests with his next team.

If he moves on to another team, THE SOX DON'T HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING FOR 2019 NO MATTER WHAT. - Alex Speier

They are dumping Hanley.

So, it's worth paying Moreland $35M/2 vs HRam $22M/1?

or Moreland $57M/2 vs HRam $44M/2?

Sunk cost. I'd rather have Moreland and Travis on the team than Moreland and Hanley.

That seems strange, but I guess the team taking him is the one that gives him 495 PAs and the vest, so it makes some sense.

All the more reason to trade him. All the more reason for another team not to want him and face a grievance, if they deny him 495.

Travis is replacement level at best.

Moreland is not $6.5M better than HRam.

His upside is much higher than replacement level. I don't believe the scouts that say "Goldschmidt or Votto" but he has the skills to be a good 1b if he develops a power profile (he's not even 25 yet).

HRam has .900 OPS upside potential next year.

Travis has .780 upside.
