To be fair, it could also have been a douchebag, a sonofabitch, or just some f***er.

This had me literally LOL.

I stand corrected.

Mega mega dumb batting JBJ 9th and Holt 1st. Holt just hasn't been the same since his concussion, this makes zero sense. I hope it doesn't cost us.

I've said over and over that batting order doesn't make that much of a difference, and it doesn't, but even I have to cringe at Holt leading off.

Leon is slow as molasses and his throw to 2b these days ain't what it was earlier. But he is way better than Vazquez at stopping--often catching--pitches in the dirt. My guess is he frames pitches better too, but I can't be sure.

Last I checked, Vaz was better at framing pitches, though both are above average.

Good start by Porcello again.

Great pitching by the Porcello and the pen today. Workman is showing more and more that he can handle high pressure spots. It is great to see Reed bounce back in his last 2 outings. Very nice job by him.

I don't think he has looked bad defensively and would take him at 2b over Nunez any day--except for his hitting of course. His contribution to the team is that right now, with Pedroia out, Holt is our only backup at 2b, SS, and 3b. This is partly because Farrell is carrying 13 pitchers (8 relievers).

Holt has not been as good as he was for us in previous years, but he's fine as a bench guy. His versatility is needed right now.

Now THAT is a smart aggressive play.

Unless, of course, he had been thrown out. Then it would have been stupid.

Isn't this a 9 inning game with a low score? Weren't most of the relievers brought in at the beginning of the half inning? It all that is true, why in the wide, wide world of sports are we now coming up on 3 1/2 hours?

FWIW, I think the Yankees are the real slowpokes. But the problem is with MLB who will not empower umpires to speed up the games.

Gray is annoyingly slow between pitches. I think the announcers said an average of 28.2 seconds between pitches.

I like Sandy Leon, but man, its cringeworthy watching him run the bases.. He is so slow and awkward out there.

Fellow catch Salty was impressed with his baserunning. LOL

I like this move. End it!

I liked the call too. This is a big game. Don't take any chances when Kimbrel is available.

Shame, because I wanted Gray on the Sox. Of course, it would have cost us Devers, but only cost the Yankees two injured players and a couple of broken bats.

Well, Big Dick Rick beat him, so I'm not too upset about us not getting him

What hindsight? I have no complaints about JBJ batting 9th these days. He does not flourish way up in the order. 6th or 7th might be best for him if he is back on a groove.

Agreed.

Also, he looks more comfortable at 9.

Oh but Holt has no value on the roster!!111!!

Are you aware that he is playing with a knee injury?

But most of the board knows that Porcello sucks.

Right?

Umm, I thought he was pitching well even when he was piling up all those losses. Lacking run support really makes you look worse than you are.

Pitching to a 4.62 ERA is not good pitching.

IIRC, most of that came in April and May. Going only off my head, I'd say he's been pretty solid since June

In June his ERA was 6.63 with an appropriate 1-4 record, and in August thus far (before today) his ERA has been 4.90 with a fortuitous record of 3-0. Edited by a700hitter

He was bad in April, good in May, horrendous in June, very good in July, and has been good in August.

There it is. I knew he had two bad months.

All I'm saying is that on any given night, I trust Porcello more than E-Rod, Fister, and Price.

As of now, I do too, but ERod has a chance to pass Porcello by doing well to finish out the season.
