I think what most people are missing out of all this is that Pedroia and Machado are.... wait for it.....FRIENDS. If something similar happened with Ortiz and Torii Hunter, I wouldn't be surprised if Ortiz handled it the same way Pedroia did.

Here's another thing most are missing. Pedroia already handled the situation himself, that night. He didn't need the Red Sox to, evidently, go behind his back two days later and re-handle it for him. Think about your everyday life or business even. You have a perceived problem or misunderstanding with a client or a family member. You address the issue personally and solve it. A few days go by and other family members or business partners take it upon themselves to get involved after you put an end to the issue. After you made it known that it wasn't an issue anymore or wasn't to begin with. You'd be pissed right? I know I'd be pissed. The Red Sox went against Pedroia's wishes, that were in fact publicly stated, to let it go. It's kinda hard to take back a public statement paraphrasing " I talked to him, we're friends and it's baseball, let it go". The Red Sox didn't have his back. They ignored him and reveled in typical mob-mentality b.s. hiding behind a "We got your back, bro" facade.

Those goddam sneaky snarky (what ever that means) ******** Red Sox. They should all get suspended for 10 games. Except for Pedroia. Wow

If one of your friends is an absolute shitbag like Machado, you may be one too.

We will be able to sign him soon enough when he is a free agent. His villain status will change to tough guy misunderstood status immediately. lol

We can still turn this whole situation into a positive.

What would Baltimore give us for Pedey though? Their prospects aren't very interesting at the moment.

I'm sorry Emp. it's not up to Pedroia to decide. it doesnt matter that he was the one on the receiving end of the bush slide by machado. it could have been holt, hernandez, or me. baseball unwritten rules dictate that machado will indeed get paid back. and that is what erod and barnes attempted to do. pedroia needs to shut his f***ING pie hole and cease throwing his teammates UNDER THE BUS. it aint up to him what happens next to Machado. unless you believe pedroia is above the game of baseball.....

No, mainly just Farrell (& Barnes of course) i would guess. Everyone else seemed to listen to Pedroia.

I guess everyone else just wanted to have a "kick me" sign put on their backs?

I really don't know what shenanigans they pull in the locker room, so it's hard for me to say.

I honestly think that Barnes was trying to do what someone else asked him to do. He is still just a kid. His execution was obviously pathetic. i don't think he was trying to hit Machado in the head. I'll give him some credit for not being simply stupid. I think that it is about leadership here. Has to come from somewhere. Pedroia's on field play sets examples - good ones but they need more than that. Where is the real leadership coming from? Where is it going to come from? Without something that resembles good solid leadership - guess what - you lose.

Ah those unwritten rules. Like Keats' unheard melodies, I suppose (as in some lines of work employees get rated by friendly bosses on such things as "heart" or "intent" or "potential"). All b.s. but excellent at justifying all kinds of irrational and stupid behavior.

did you watch the game? he tried 3 pitches in a row to drill him in the leg.

What is there about this that people don't understand? Any successful team I've been on had the mentality that we are one. If you f*** with one of us you f***ed with all of us and we're all offended. And we will find a way to retaliate.

Pedey may well have been right when he said "It's not me. It's them" but it means that Machado had pissed all of them off so Machado should expect retaliation from anyone on the team. But it doesn't give Pedey the right to throw his teammates under the bus while they do it.

What he should have said was NOTHING...and let it play out the way it played out, whatever that might be. I used to work with a guy who had a sign on his desk saying, "I've never been criticized for something I didn't say". In this case Pedey had the right to remain silent but he just. couldn't. bring. himself. to. do.it.

I know I keep going back to this, but it took Dempster three tries to hit ARod too!

If Pedroia and Machado are such great buds, surely he could have texted him or otherwise made contact after the game to privately express his disagreement with how the matter was handled by Barnes/the Red Sox. I don't think anyone would have had a problem with that...but instead he chose to show up/call out a teammate in the middle of the game on live TV. There's a lot of wrong to go around in this whole affair, but something about that just really doesn't sit right with me.

If Pedroia was upset about the slide or heck, said nothing about it at all. Then yes, retaliate. But he went out of his way to communicate that it was taken care of. It was over. And then we still retaliated. That doesn't scream "we are one" either, hate to tell ya'.

Evidently texting doesn't work, 'cause he already tried that Friday

pedroia doesn't get to decide whether or not it is "taken care of"....I'm not sure why this is such a tough concept to grasp.

..and I hate to tell ya that sitting back and watching someone hurt one of your friends and doing nothing about it, regardless of what your friend says, makes you nothing more than a garden variety pussy.

If EMP has his way:

pedroia gets spiked by a dirty slide by machado and is injured and misses 3 games.

pedroia blabbers "no retribution".

the Red Sox put Pedroia above baseball and does nothing to retaliate.

Machado and the rest of the league take notice that the Red sox roll over.

next week, next month, next season, machado (or some other slug) has zero fear about retaliation because they know they can be dirty with no consequence and proceeds to truck bogaerts and snaps his knee in half ending his baseball career.

thanks pedroia. glad you and machado are still such good friends and he knows you didn't allow baseball players to enforce baseball. hope you give Xander half your salary......
