I started a thread for the past 3 years since the Evil Empire signed Jacoby Ellsbury. There were some posters on BDC (and I'm sure on TalkSox) that thought the Red Sox FO should have outbid the Yankees for Ellsbury. I was adamant that we made the correct decision in letting him walk. The plan is to compare the daily stats game by game of the 2 starting center fielders.

2014 matched up Ells v Sizemore.

2015 matchup was Ells v Mookie.

2016 matchup was Ells v JBj

JBj is coming off a dominating beatdown of Ellsbury in 2016.

This tracker will run very similar to previous years matchup with scoring and day-to-day stats. As always I am more than happy to review a particular day if a fellow poster disagrees with my ruling.

Good luck to both participants. (well, not really. i hope JE gets smoked again).

2015 Final Tally:

MB: 74.5 ST (Slasher Tracker) score / 6.0 WAR

JE: 48.0 ST score / 1.9 WAR

2016 Final Tally:

JBj: 87 ST (Slasher Tracker) score / 5.3 WAR

JE: 56 ST score / 2.8 WAR

JBj: $547,000

JE: $21,142,857

2015 & 2016 Combined:

MB/JBj: 161.5 ST score / 11.3 WAR

JE: 104 ST score / 4.7 WAR

MB/JBj: $1,061,500

JE: $42,285,714

And to think... there's only 4-5 more seasons of this thread left to go. :o

Maybe the Yanks will pick up that team option in 2021!

ugh... I still like Ells, but... so much money. I still have the vision of him stealing home vs Pettitte(?) god knows when.

I always saw Ellsbury as someone who was going to leave, never became a big fan of his.

Watching JBJ in the minors was enough to let me say goodbye to JE. I really liked him and still do. Just a little to fragile for me. just glad to see JBJ really becoming the player it looked like he was going to become. I think that he will just keep getting better as we move forward.

I wanted to keep Ellsbury, but not for the money he wanted and got from the Yankees, who overpaid because of the departure of Cano and Ellsbury's very misleading but spectacular 2011 season. No doubt they thought the short porch in RF would also help.

I also wasn't that much of a Bradley fan in 2015 but agreed with the Sox decision to keep giving him shots with the big club--which finally paid off I think in August when he caught fire at the plate.

The giant irony of the 2016 season is that the defensive stalwart JBJ came much, much closer to Ellsbury's 2011 offensive stats than Ellsbury did.

And I give a huge pat on the back to all 10 Sox fans worldwide that exuded patience during that transition...

I recall this being the majority opinion. The Yankees grossly overpaid and we should not have tried to match that offer.

Thank you - as one who has believed in him, I accept that pat.

Thank you. You may remember that I was one who was BEGGING for JBJ to be the regular CF'er even when the doubters were wanting to send him down or trade him for a bag of balls because "he can't hit and never will be able to hit".

I'm not right all that often but when I am I try to make the best of it. :D

4/10 right here.

my go to JBj quote over the past 3 years: "JBj could get 1 single every 10 AB's and I still start him in CF every game."

I am happy to have JBJ in center. But it is a little hard to take this thread seriously. How does 1 for 4 not beat 0 for 3 ? Even the horrible Harold Lederman would not have called that round even. Season to date : Ellsbury - .348 , .940 ,1 HR. Jackie : .286 , .782 , 0 HRs. Now on the DL. Yup , all even so far. I might add that I think there is a good chance that Jackie will have the better year when all is said and done.

Hi Dgale. thanks for your query.

you forgot to mention the RBI that JBj got in that game. the RBI = the base hit that JE got. do you think a basehit is more important than an RBI?

did you take the thread seriously the last 2 seasons? how about the final ST score? they seemed to equate to the WAR numbers quite well. do you consider WAR numbers to be taken seriously?

After consideration the scoring for Game 4 will remain a Tie.

thanks.

Oh and just like the other years...once the DL start date is confirmed the scoring will switch to 1/2 point to the active player and 1/2 point to DL column. so JE may lose a 1/2 point for Game 5 & Game 6.

thanks.
