MLB Commissioner will talk to Cleveland Indians owner about controversial logo

it's 100% completely racist. they should change it to Cleveland Native Americans or a specific tribal name if they want to "honor" native peoples. the logo is about as racist as could be. .

oh, and the Redskins is 100% racist too. let me know when there is a pro team called the Colombus Crackers or Nashville N@#$@#$ or Michigan Ragheads, Jersey Japs or Wisconsin Wetbacks. its ridiculous that it's the 21st century and we have a team called the Redskins. f*** them. and anyone that roots for them. now lets get back to crucifying a player who might possibly had maybe knowledge of air pressure.......

Please. In history, the Guardians got screwed over. The logo is the least of the indignities that they have suffered. Move on. BTW, do any Guardians actually wear headdresses etc. anymore? I don't think so, and the decedents of the Pilgrims are not walking around with hats with buckles on them. but people still dress up like that as a goof. It is a stupid sports logo. It is part of the team's history and tradition. A few offended people need to get a grip.

Native Americans have been delegitimized for 500 years. It's easy to make a racist joke about a smaller population and say "it's not a big deal." It might be just a "stupid sports logo," but it is still demeaning. Also, if the logo doesn't really mean all that much (i.e. stupid sport logo) then it should be easy to replace.

Atlanta didn't have much of an issue with dumping Noc-A-Homa when they needed to. Maybe it's time Cleveland does the same.

I live in a small town trading center right in the middle of 3 Native reservations and have yet to meat a single actual Native American that gives half a damn about the sports logo. This is all much ado about nothing.

You know damn well that if the Guardians were no longer the Guardians and the Redskins were no longer the Redskins these same bleeding hearts would be complaining that Native heritage was unrepresented on the national sports scene. You can't win with these people. So why play their game?

But are Braves fans still doing the tomahawk chop and the 'Oh oh ohohoh' chant?

To a very large part of the country, the term Yankee is offensive. People need to get over it. It is a logo. It is meant to be a caricature. There are all sorts of caricatures used as logos for teams etc. Those offended by the Indian logos should not go to or watch their games. Millions enjoy the teams' logo and heritage. They should be able to keep it.

It's a political issue put forth mainly by white people who have made being offended into an industry.

Have you taken a poll of Indian fans? And nobody will take a poll of the fans, and that is a shame.

Have you taken a poll of racists? see if they want to repeal the 13th amendment? And nobody will take a poll of the racists, and that is a shame.

This is beginning to show why we don't discuss politics on Talksox.

To some people: politics is everything and everything is politics.

it does always turn into a disaster. everyone thinks what they think. we all think we are right and the other person is wrong. and not one of us will ever change our minds. it is idiotic to try and talk politics on the interweb.

Well as near as I can figure, the Natives definitely don't. What we name our sports teams is the least of their worries. So the question remains, who the heck are you white knighting for if most Natives don't give a damn?

Sometimes instead of just shutting down these things before they start, I should let them run a page or two like this one. Just to remind everyone that I'm not pulling the rules out of my ass just for the sheer pleasure of being a dictator.
