Just heard it on the radio, I don't have a link, I'm sure one will emerge soon

EDIT: there we go http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-verge-hiring-former-red-sox-gm-ben-cherington/

TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays are on the verge of hiring Ben Cherington as a vice-president of baseball operations, multiple industry sources told Sportsnet.

Other teams also held talks with the former Boston Red Sox general manager, according to sources, indicating that he’ll work with many facets of the front office’s baseball side, with an emphasis on player development.

Cherington led the Red Sox to a World Series championship in 2013, but left the organization last year after Dave Dombrowski was hired as the president of baseball operations. He then spent the spring semester teaching at Columbia University.

Toronto hires Ben Cherrington as VP for baseball operations. It appears to bethe nbr two baseball job in Toronto. It isn't the top job and looks to be at the same level as the job he would have had if he stayed with Boston once Dombrowski was hired.

Well good luck to him.

I wonder if he will be out front negotiating with the Jays big FA?

He is the enemy now. Screw him. I hope that he brings them back to last place.

I only wish that he went to the Yankees and destroyed their pitching.

BTW, I guess that his class at Columbia was a big hit.

Not sure but who cares?

He wants money and now he has it again.

Cherrington earned a ring, and stacked the team with talent for years to come. As long as there is someone above him in Toronto capable of saying no to boneheaded moves, he'll do well.

Until I posted this, a700 posts were one short of half the total posts in this thread.

I'm getting a distinct "jilted lover" vibe here.

As a GM, and he hasn't. He is an assistant -- what he does best. Get coffee for the Big Cheese.

Cherington is going to be in charge of developing the farm in Toronto, something that he excels at. He had a chance to be the "Big Cheese" in Minnesota, and declined the interview.

You can continue to knock him all you want, but those who are in the business have a lot of respect for him, as they should.

I think Pal is posting out the laughable irony of you asking 'who cares?' while you post about the topic.

I post aboit a lot of stuff that people don't care about while I am sitting around the house. I tried to tell my wife about Cherries new job and she walked away from me, so I post about it.

back to Cherries, he is best as a gopher assistant. He is now the enemy. I hope that he screws up Blue Jay pitching for 10 years. Nuf said about him.

Agreed.

I'd argue and say he needs someone that's not actively pitching bonehead "bring butts to the seats" type moves. *ahem* LL *ahem*

Then again, he is the enemy now, so screw him.
