I've heard from some insiders that Pomeranz is not very mentally tough. Let's see, a soft lefty with a jittery stomach at Fenway Park. Who thought that was a good idea?

Which insiders are you hearing things from? Unless Pomeranz told you that himself or someone who played with him told you that, I wouldn't put a lot of stock in assessments like that.

Well, let's see. Why don't I just name the person (a writer whom I trust implicitly, a person who had a conversation with a former manager of his). No, not going to go there. Let's just say I hope for the Red Sox sake, that Pomeranz has overcome those difficulties and will be good for Boston. But so far, the jury is out.

Right on, Rocky. You hit the nail on the head. We should be walking all over these other teams.

You have been consistent in your assessment of this being a .500 team. I agree, but after the last 2 seasons, I am enjoying it. The calendar is about to turn to August and we are playing meaningful games.

I watch all the games and hope that they win their share. This season is better than the last two. They are still in it. For now anyways.

At this damn rate we will be out of a playoff spot in no time. Absolutely frustrating how we are playing lately.

This!

As frustrating as its been as of late I still love the fact that we are competing for a playoff spot. Still a lot of baseball to be played too!

Finally! Got the hitting to match the pitching! It really sucks to lose 2-1 or 9-8, and to waste good hitting or pitching performances.

I still think that they are an 85 win team. They are finally fun to watch regardless of their record. Some really good young players. They are going to have to add a couple more if they are going to compete for it all. They just aren't as good as many think that they are. I don't think that those additions are going to come from Portland either.

Red Sox must find a way to get out of this funk. Traveled a long way to see part of the MINN series at Fenway. A first game 13-2 win seems like the high water mark. Since then, a bad slide....two brutal losses to a bad Twins team (making us feel like we turned the season sour just by showing up) a sweep by Detroit, and now this lackluster effort against the Angels. The brutal error by Hanley in game one, and now 11 LOB tonight, most v. a pitcher begging to get knocked out. Not making key defensive plays, and not getting key hits when needed. Most good pitching outings are wiped out by no offense. Explosive offense wiped out by terrible pitching. Hitters looking at pitches down the middle, then swinging at crap for strike three. Bad combos and not very much fun to watch right now. Get your stuff together Red Sox...you're better than this!!

Excellent first post. Welcome to the forum. Hope to see you post often.

Oh, I watch when I can too. But doesn't 'this season is better than the last two' only mean "They likely won't end up in last place"? That's astonishing given the years of Betts, Bogaerts, Papi!, JBJ, even Pedroia and of course Leon, as well the unexpected improvement of Hanley (none of them were expected to play as well as they have) and the acquisition of two of the best pitchers in the league.
