The Mariners are about to complete a sweep of the O's so we will have managed to pick up 2 games in the standings over the weekend despite yesterday's embarrassing debacle.

Amazing right? Just 3 games back. This team should be like 10 games out of first. They need to show me something right here against a good team like the rangers coming up at home.

DD still has time to right the ship.

CP176 has been telling us about Marco H since the middle of last season. I had an eye out for him during spring training. He has a good set of tools and he is well polished.

I loved how he looked last year when I saw him. His Portland stats were all great but as an athlete once again he just stood out. He is another young player who did everything expected of him and earned an opportunity. He is young and getting better. he might have a future as something other than just a role player.

A day that will live in infamy (to re-coin a phrase). I, for one, learned a lot from that game. Without naming names, I have come to the conclusion that several players on this team have a poor mindset, and give up when the game is finally out of reach. A few did not.

While it's not fair to directly blame JF for this outrage, but it is still a fact that JF is too nice a guy to be managing a bunch of kids. I look at him on the steps of the dugoutm and see Leio Durocher across from him in the other dugout saying, "John. nice guys finish last.)

Bosoxmal, I thought I was an over-reactor, but you take the cake. I'm old, but you are older and should know better than to compare one stupid baseball game to Dec 7, 1941. And what is all that stuff about a lousy mindset? I say again, it was just one game. If you are saying Shaw is a little too error prone, I agree, but he has been that way all season long and starts because of his good bat against righties. As for the Leo Durocher quotation, you got that one wrong too. He was talking about opposing players, not opposing managers. And guess what, MLB has worked steadily at eliminating the style of play espoused by Ty Cobb, who loved to slide into second base with spikes high. But back then players were only making a little more than the average fan and were expendable. You're right that Farrell tends to be a good guy (or a nice guy), but, heck, so is Joe Maddon. You keep wanting to move Betts down in the batting order and his OBP says you could be right. But he is second on the team in rbi's and leads in runs scored. Moreover, despite recent scoring woes, the Sox lead MLB in runs scored. The problems are all with the pitching, not the hitting.

Have to give it up for O'Sullivan. I hope he can hang in there for a while.

Good to see Hanley get his swing. We need his stick.....

I think Holt is the only guy holding this whole thing together........ without him we lose............ and that's a fact.............

"Without naming names?" ... Why? these are entertainers, not overly sensitive colleagues. Say who you are talking about so that the rest of us can discuss it.

Interesting stat, we're 23-9 in Holt's starts.

Re/Betts, he would do a lot more for the team hitting either in front of or behind Ortiz. 3 and 4 would be ideal. Either way, but probably Betts 3rd. It's almost sacred that your two best power (or reliable) hitters go back-to-back. Ruth/Gehrig, Williams/Foxx, etc. Sure, with Holt bacl and Leon looking like we thought Panda would, I love the lineup. But there never was one that couldn't be made better, and a big time slump (which have been having until the last two day) is usually the time shake-ups occur.

Do I over-react? Absolutely. I've probably seem too much baseball. Too many situations to compare with and, as you indicate, that's not very fair. I love to do it, anyway. And, Durocher may not have been the best example. But his middle name was "fire" and JF's middle name is "get along".
