he should advance the runner at minimum.

He saw one strike, nothing else was even close, didn't swing the bat, and got called out on strikes. That's not on him. Trying to chase pitches 6+ inches out of the zone just isn't good baseball. 100% on the ump.

I f***ing hate "a pitchers ump" its code word for "i dont know the strike zone, but I'm labeled something that allows me to be s***** at my job"

I also get suspicious when it's late in the game. Umps get paid per game, not per hour, right... Sometimes it seems they just want to end the game already....

And a slumping Shaw predictably has a horrible AB against a left handed pitcher.. Ugh, definitely should've let Young hit, and then pinch hit Ortiz for Shaw.

I dont agree with pinch hitting for Young, he is the teams hottest hitter right now.. I know its Ortiz but I'd rather use him to pinch hit for Shaw..

This is interesting. I'd need to see what Young is hitting vs Righties recently, I don't know. This might have been the right call.....

lol, pathetic.

So wtf did the Redsox have to fly across the country for 2 games and fly to Min? Sometimes these inter league series make no sense...

We had the same thought.

I'm with you on this. Shaw has only a couple hits in like the last 20 AB. Young was on point tonight.........

This team's too damn inconsistent right now. They haven't played really that well. When did they win a series? All these other teams in the division are starting to play better.

Young vs RHP this season:

.231 .310 .519 .830

overall in the last 28 days:

.342 .419 .763 1.182

Shaw in the last 28 days:

.219 .272 .396 .668

and against RHP:

.302 .365 .511 .876

Shaw really hasn't been much better against RHP this season outside of BA. You have to go with the hot hand. Shaw's cooled off a lot in the last month where as Young has been on fire...

I almost seems like every game where we have a pitcher shoot an ace performance we lose. I'm thinking some Wright games mostly.

The other way you could look at the PH decision: You let Young hit, if he gets on base, 1 out, 2 on, you could let Shaw hit and put in Papi for Vazquez. Sure you run the risk of possibly a DP and not get Papi in the game. On the other hand, you give yourself the opportunity to get 2 hot bats and a solid bat instead of 1 hot bat, 1 solid, and a black hole.

You are on the road, don't sell out a multiple runs inning and a stronger string of bats for an at best slightly better chance for the 1 tying run.

It's crazy they gave Castillo $72M and he morphed into s***.
When we signed him, very little was known about him. There was little in the way of scouting reports on him. There was very little video of him. He hadn't played for a year and a half. He was a mystery man. We had assumed that the Red Sox had more information on him than was publicly available. Maybe they didn't.

He looked good at the signing time. And with multiple Cubans doing well the thought that the caliber there was super high. Wasn't he the guy in the video during the World Baseball classic raking against newly super phenom pitchers already in the league. It sucks now....... but it was worth the stab....

I was thinking just the same. Young should have taken that AB, he was a better bet than Shaw who is slumping. Then you should've gone with Papi.

Not sure what Farrell was thinking.

Didn't see the game last night.... to bad we couldn't pick up the win for Price. He looks like he played one hell of a game. We really need to sweep the Twins this weekend now being behind Baltimore 1.5 games.
Posted
But why oh why would we want to fix the f***ing ball-strike calls?

That guy last night was all over the place with calls. One inning he would call it tight with a pitch on the paint and then the next inning he would call a pitch that was 6-8 inches outside a strike. And he went back and forth with it too.

agreed. 100%. there is def something for giving the guy who has been "red hot" a chance in a big spot.....

The Price Was Right last night. But he was out of gas in the middle of the 7th inning. I'm not surprised he gave up the game winning dinger in the 8th.

During the Giants 4th inning at bat I heard a fan yell "Okay pretty boy. Get one wet". Lol. Never heard that one before!!!!

This schedule is f***ing dumb. Out to the left coast for two games? They could not have been scheduled in with games in SD, LA, Okaland, and Seattle? Dumb.

The Giants bull pen was pretty good, I think.
