The Red Sox boast one of the best young SS in all of baseball, but stemming from an argument with Jacko, I wish to ask the following question, who would you choose between them anchor a franchise and why.

I chose Lindor citing that the gap between the offensive potential was nowhere near as wide as their defensive ability.

Thoughts?

It's a matter of believing in Correa's power - and that it will grow (because I think it is more likely than not he will have to move to 3B inside of 5 years) to a franchise anchor.

Lindor is going to be able to stay at SS. The power potential is probably going to top off at the 10-15 HR level, but with outstanding batting and on-base numbers.

Bogaerts to me is kind of the best of both worlds - I think the power is coming (the ISO this year is starting to get back to where he was on the farm) and he has been just stunning turning himself into someone who can legitimately stay on the hot corner much longer than anybody anticipated.

I'd go Bogaerts-Lindor-Correa with a watchful eye towards Addison Russell, who has the tools to be every bit as good although the bat has not arrived yet. I do not deny having Red colored glasses here.

Correa > Lindor > Bogaerts

If Cal Ripken could play at SS for the majority of his career, so can Correa.

My answer to that question is "yes." And if forced to pick one or the other my decision is that that decision doesn't matter. Either of those players would be a franchise centerpiece, and so would Bogaerts.

If I was given a selection of luxury cars that I could pick one of to drive for the rest of my life, any one of those would represent a major upgrade over my current ride, so it almost doesn't matter which one I picked, they'd all be a good choice.

One thing for sure, these guys all have ceilings so high that you can't make a judgment call based on current performance. We thought we knew the answer between Nomar and Jeter in the early oughts, but the cold fact is that Jeter was the better player overall, even with his shortcomings on defense. Nomar started out being vastly superior, but he didn't hold up, and was gone within 10 years to Jeter's 20 giving us exactly 0 World Series wins and far fewer strong postseason performances into the bargain..

That is an answer to the question. it's literally impossible to go wrong from what we know right now.

Question: All these guys are good, if you were starting a team, who would you choose to start it with?

A name is an answer. Platitudes about all of them being good is not an answer. We know they are all good.

Who would you choose?

Bogaerts.

I consider them all equally as talented, and if you want a tiebreaker, it's hard to go wrong siding with the guy who already has direct World Series experience. If I wanted to build a franchise from scratch, talent isn't the only consideration -- a great young shortstop is good, a great young shortstop who's already seen the view from the top is even better.

UN?, both would be awesome to have. The thing is, Correa has an ARod type upside, whereas Lindor reminds me a lot of Jimmy Rollins. I think Correa ends up being a perennial 30-40+HR hitter who hits for average and plays subpar but passable D at SS.

i proabably take Bogaerts, because he now seems to have advanced from just the glimpses we saw, has definite ML level pop in his bat, sure glove and arm in the field and showing each day he's thriving in one of the higher profile sports media markets in the game

I'm perfectly okay with Bogaerts being the SS on the Red Sox. There is nobody else I would rather have. He fully encompasses what it means to be a Red Sox. I do like Correa's character though.
