who the heck is Erik Johnson?

this will be his first appearance in 2016.

Sox have never faced him. i am always leery of this because we usually stink against an SP we have never seen before.

2015 he had a 3.34 ERA in 6 GS (35 IP). 1.4 WHIP.

not much of a book.

Tonight is a crap shoot with two relatively untried starters. Good for us that Chicago is starting a righty even if no one has seen him. White Sox fans probably think lefty Owens is good for them.

Rubber game in a key semi-defining early series.

What I find interesting in Owens is his BABIP thus far. It is 346. Also, while his ERA is 4.8, his FIP/xFIP 6.92/6.45. His SIERA which consider BABIP? 5.92. Also his K/BB is 1.

While his BABIP should normalize, his ERA estimators and K/BB are not encouraging thus far.

This is going to be a tough game to win. We need to pound their rookie early.

I wouldn't put too much into the stats for his first 2 starts since it only amounts to 9.1 innings. His career numbers are a bit more relevant.

Owen's fastball command is what is really key here.

He has to keep from getting behind and walking so many batters.

He has to not suck.

Who would you guys rather have on your fantasy team this year, Evan Longoria or Matt Carpenter?

I drafted Carpenter and it's been a slow start thus far. I think he's gone 2/4 the past few days, but nothing special. Longoria is batting .015 better and has 2 more HRs and 3 less rbi than Carpenter. So not a big differential. Runs re about the same with MC 15 EL 14. It comes down to who you think will get hot and maybe look ahead at bat vs SP matchups.

Anybody know tonights Sox/sox lineup?

Yeah i know what you mean. Last season had me in fits when they faced a new new SP. We made whoever look like the next phenom. I hope this years different.

Turns out we have faced Erik Johnson atleast once before. XB 0/3, JBJ 0/1, Hanigan 1/1, Papi 0/3. Must be hurt or sent down a lot. 2013 GS 5, 2014 GS 5, 2015 GS 6. This is his first GS for '16.

Have we had THAT much turnover since 2013? No Betts, Pedroia was probly on DL. Nap, Vic, wMB, etc all gone. Etc...

So what exactly is good about Owens? He doesn't have a great fast ball and his command is horrible, am I missing something?

Some of our minor league pitchers have been overrated recently. I don't know if our guys do a good job developing these guys.

Owens has been projected as a number three starter at best.

He has had his ups and downs. In the minors he had really good times where there was some false hope that he was better than a number three, then bad times where people then felt like he failed because of overly high expectation.

I haven't ever seen him look over powering. But I think he is a work in progress and will fit in at some point. Just not an allstar.
