more to the point, the Boston sports scene has enjoyed a recent mighty swagger, having teams from all 4 sports go deep into the playoffs from time to time, and the Patriots and Red Sox have recent championships to boast about. The golden age may be technically over, but there's still a highly entertaining product in at least 3 of our preeminent franchises (pity the poor Celtics).

In a flat economy, sports revenue can still skyrocket if the sports scene is the entertainment "place to be." basically the Red Sox are successfully competing for an increased share in New Englanders' entertainment budget and enjoying the windfall of that successful competition.

And nationwide, baseball is actually doing a similar thing, with more media exposure and a new baseball parity that have seen former "outsider" teams like the Royals, Orioles, Rays and Pirates in the playoffs in recent years, baseball is simply more interesting to more people than it has been in awhile. you can hate Bud Selig all you want, but he left the league in absolutely fantastic shape and that was his job at the end of the day.

More to what point? baseball is doing well? true - just baseball? I don't think so. The economy in general looks good or bad depending on who you talk to, where you are, and what you do. It stuns me daily to see how much $ is being spent on all things in these very difficult times. That is me being sarcastic.

The C's are better than the Bruins right now (who will impossibly miss the playoffs for 2 straight years).

Yup, the Celtics are a fun team to watch, even if they don't have much of a chance past the first round of the playoffs.

The Bruins are a train wreck.

The Celtics are a young team on the way up.

Who knows about the Bruins.

I prefer the faster pace of the NHL, but the Bruins are just terrible right now. They are a team on the decline who are going to fire their coach in the next few weeks.

The C's just need a guy that can take the ball over at the end of the game (not IT or Evan Turner).

I'm glad that you posted this as this is exactly how I feel. Maybe Dojji does not care for basketball and does not see the Celtics games?

The Celtics are currently capable of beating any team in the NBA. Of course they are equally capable of losing to any one of them too.

Al in all, they provide entertainment and can draw a fan into believing that they can win on any given night.

I just renewed my membership last week. Same as last year only given the option of $14.95 they are pushing it aside for Kid nation they want fenway to be more kid friendly.

No disrespect to the OP, but the whole notion of this artificial "Red Sox Nation" is ridiculous and it's kind of sleazy that the brass tries to commodify the emotional attachment Red Sox fans have for their club. Shouldn't being a Red Sox fan be enough? Or does an "exclusive group" have to be created?

Red Sox fans have been played for total dopes for years by this ownership group. You should see how quickly they buckle to fan demands at Liverpool. The owners look at us and laugh, knowing very well how we'll just eat whatever they spoon out to us.

I only join because I get in early to watch sox practice. They let you watch from green monster. I also only joined because from 2014 and past they would offer one free batting practice watch session from the warning track. Great way to get autographs.

So f***ing what? If I lived there and I had the money, I'd go. I don't, so I watch on TV, and I buy merchandise when I can. Am I less of a fan because I live thousands of miles away?

Ever tried stub hub? I get bleacher seats all the time for $6 and I bought upper bleacher for almost all my games this year and only paid $150 in total for 15 games. Wicked cheap if you ask me. Fenway doesn't have to be wicked expensive, if you play your cards right. Get a good burger from tasty burger before the game and have a drink before the game or eat after the game. There are many ways to save money. Also you can stand in line at Gate E day of games sales and get tickets for face value.

It would be easier if I didn't have to fly 3 hours just to get to Boston from my tropical prison.

Didn't know you lived so far away. If you want to spend some $$$ try red sox destination trips to fenway. I seen a list of what they give you on those things and I would def do it and I live in boston. You get to go behind the scoreboard which I have always wanted to do that.

I kinda plan to do that actually. Next year, at the earliest.

I looked at it for my cuz who moved to FL a long time ago her son loves the sox and the price for it wasn't that bad at all. The perks you get with it are great.

The problem is, I don't live in Florida. I live in the Dominican Republic, land of David Ortiz and Pedro Martinez aka the middle of goddamned nowhere. The process is a bit more convoluted.....visa renewal, vacations from both my jobs etc etc.

C'mon, it was much better back in the early 90's when you could walk up on game day and buy a seat. Have you ever seen the replay of Nomar's 4 HR game, or Roger's 20K game? Fenway was half full! THOSE WERE TRUE FANS! NOT LIKE THE NAMBY PAMBY PINK HATTED SWEET CAROLINE SINGING WALLY WAVING PHONEYS OF TODAY!!!
you can still do that today. There is Gate E day of game sales and sometimes if its not a popular team they are playing you can walk up to the box office when they open and they will sell you a ticket.

Ticket prices are an outrage, concessions alone will cost a family of 4 about $75, maybe more. The way they shut off Yawkey Way is kind of an affront to people of Boston or the area who might want to go down and soak up the pre game atmosphere without necessarily buying tickets and going to the game itself. It's a city street, it does not belong to them.

I also dislike the "America's Most Beloved Ballpark" banner they drape outside the park. A Cubs fan doesn't think that's accurate, and I'm sure a Yankees fan doesn't too. It's arrogance and not very classy. Fenway Park speaks for itself, it doesn't need to be "marketed".

/rant over

When I used to go to games in the "cheap" seats, I would always joke that it is America's most uncomfortable ballpark.
