Oh I don't bring it up really with any expectations just to kind of drum up some enthusiasm for the kids. Have to be realistic but for a kid his age with what he has I am very happy that he is ours.
And they accuse you of being an old fuddy duddy, but they rain all over your parade when you are enthusiastic about a young prospect.;)

Wilkerson line not too bad - 3 to 1 win for Portland - 11 k's in 5+ - good day for him.

In Salem's win, you should look at the box score. Those first 3 prospects got off to great starts.

Moncada

Dubon

Benintendi

Maybe Dombrowski knew what he was doing all along. Guerra is a reasonably well regarded prospect but maybe they knew what they had in Dubon.

whoever scouted and recommended signing these kids should get huge credit. Pretty sure it wasn't the GM, but if he gets all of the credit and all of the blame - on this forum it appears that he might- thanks Ben!

17 years old Espinoza pitch 5 scoreless inning, 2H 0BB 4K for Single A Greenvile Drive

He just recently turned 18 not that that is important. He is off to a great start.

I try to pump up a little interest with respect to following these kids but I don't follow other teams' young players. As good as we think ours might look, I bet there are other organizations saying the same thing.

top 4 guys in Pawtucket's lineup got 10 of the 11 hits.

Rutledge - Hernandez - Vazquez - Travis

Walk off hit for Travis! great start!

Travis is going to force the issue of his promotion very soon, but dare I say it.... The roster is clogged.

Wait - You might say thanks Ben! I bet I don't get away with that one.

LOL! I haven't finished thanking him for the consecutive last place finishes. I do thank him for 2013.

Vazquez with 3 more hits today. He is going to be like a can of drain. He will be de-clogging things a bit. He might make it tough on the decision makers.

I can't see them carrying three catchers on the 25.

It would suck BIG TIME to lose Hannigan.

He's the only Sox catcher that knows everything it takes to be a big league catcher.

Love the two kids, though.

Something will have to give.

The better move at this point would be to send Swihart to AAA and let him work some more on his catching skills. Later in the season, Hannigan could be moved to fill a hole.

I think it would be a huge mistake to trade Hanigan. The value of a veteran, defensive back up catcher is underrated, especially when both of our other catchers are so young and inexperienced.

It's only been a few games, but based on what we've seen so far, Swihart would benefit from some seasoning in AAA. It's not just the blocking pitches. Price and Swihart didn't seem to be able to get on the same page early in the game today.

Would a catcher like Hanigan or Vazquez have made a difference? Maybe, maybe not. But it certainly wouldn't have hurt.

And I say this as a huge Swihart fan.

I'm sure he will get another shot. The fact that he is only 23 might make him an attractive trade prospect if packaged up the right way to enable us to get what we need - quality young pitching.

Or he turns into the quality young pitcher we need.

Yup we can hope. Maybe. I'm still hoping for Porcello to morph into that #2 some thought that he would become. He is still young as well. Probably not happening but it's good to have hope. I'm still voting for an eventual trade to get us the real deal though.

Castillo with a couple of hits tonight. Good for him.

Castillo was never given a fair chance.

Not that I'm at all disappointed with Brock.

We will find out just how motivated he is to be in Boston. He has had opportunities. Whether he was given enough or not, is certainly up to someone else to decide. You sign someone for 70 million who is borderline old for a rookie to begin with and add to that the fact that he had never player major league baseball - I can live with him having limited opportunities. It is possible that not everyone sees him as a gifted prospect. If he performs well in Pawtucket, I am sure that he will get another chance. It is pretty much up to him. They won't send a player down for playing too well. Kind of looks like in someone's eyes the best players are going to play.

Ben's Babes are looking really good!

He once again says you're welcome!

Does he also say sorry for the payroll mess?
