Honest question: Do you actually follow baseball?

See, there are three points to Porcello's contract: Age, health and past performance. If you take those three components into account and look at prior market history, it was literally almost impossible for the Sox (or any team for that matter) to get Porcello at much less than 20 million per and less than 6 years. Overpaying in money for less years is a way to minimize the inherent risk in pitcher contracts. It's a simple concept. If Porcello ends a 180 IP, 4.00 ERA pitcher, the overpay isn't even significant enough to be worth mentioning, especially considering his age.

You can't just throw your hands up and say "I don't care what the market is", because if the Red Sox don't maneuver around the limitations of the market, they would get f***ING NO ONE.

You're smart enough that such a dumb assertion is honestly surprising.

A 4 ERA pitcher is No 3 at best.

How many No. 3 are making 20 M?

Even if we put people on ignore, other people's quotes sometimes force you to read theirs. Also, (and Iortiz is the number one culprit of this on the site) some people here just love to needle and talk s*** then get offended when others fire back.

didn't you say that the ignore feature is for pussies?

Also I'm talking about baseball while you keep taking this personal, where's your common sense on that?

Miley is a soft tosser to me. he feels unfit to me. Am i the only one who thinks Miley is sick and just got up from bed from a massive disease and has nothing left in him kind of body language...

I am not sure what they saw in him. But I hope he has time to turn things around.

I would love to see Hembree Owens Rodriguez see what kind of potential they have..

I didnt know who Miley was and likely will not know him once he gives up the redsox uniform.

CC Sabathia is making more and still pitching like a no 3 at best for the last 3+ years.

That's not the point. CC got that contract since he proved to be a good pitcher once for several years. Porcello is making it for a fluke one, sorry, good one.

Miley's 91+ average fastball velocity is above average for a LHP. That is not it.

but dont you think he is not fit, and he needs to be in much better shape.. oh well. I hope he turns it around.

but whatever i have seen of him which is barely 2 games which he got shelled i didnt like it.

i am using Petite for the wrong example but even with 89mph fast ball his control and deception was amazing. i hated him so much for that, only because he wore the wrong uniform though.

and Miley has 15+ innings over 4 starts and has been the bullpen killer, he better turn it around.

I'm willing to let this rotation go for a few more weeks, see if it improves with the weather. But I am concerned that the market for Hamels may now heat up, whereas I think prior to Wainright and Tanaka getting hurt (albeit unsure as to prognosis for the latter), the Cards and Yankees may not be interested in him. I don't know that the Yankees have the prospects that Philly would want, and am unfamiliar with the cards as well in that regard. But - if it's possible - Hamels price may have gone up, if, indeed, the Sox have any interest in him.

A fair question - I think the market could be higher - but the Red Sox can trump any of the suitors if they want to win the auction. But I think the industry is balking at the Phillies demands.

The closer and closer it gets to the All Star break the higher and higher Amaro's asking price for Hamels will be. His no trade clause will probably f*** the highest bidder because Cole won't want to go there. Any reports on what exactly is the dollar amount the Phillies are willing to pay?

Miley has seen his K rate plummet and his walk rate rise. It's not like he's getting mauled out there as his BAA of .273 doesn't scream fluke. He seems to lose his rhythm and then lose composure and have a massively bad inning he cannot recover from
