I was at the game yesterday and there was absolutely no life for NY. I know Estrada is a good young pitcher, but he dominated a la Pedro. And he basically threw 2 pitches. His FB topped out at 89 and his change was around 75. They couldn't lay off it.

Well, they've scored 4 runs in the last 5 games, so that might have had something to do with it, meaning it was obvious how cold the bats had gotten and they were trying to swing themselves out of it. They may have also been intimidated by the Jays. At this point, I'd be shocked to find anyone NOT intimidated by the Jays.

Wow, just saw the stat on MLB.com: This is the first time the Yankees have been shut out in back-to-back games since 1999.

It's also the first time they've been swept at home by the Blue Jays since 1776.

I think you meant 1812.

Actually, I meant 1453, the year Gutenberg invented the Printing Press, the year the Ottomans overthrew the Byzantine Empire, the year the plague made its way into Europe via the city of Caffa, and the year the Hundred Years' War came to and end. Man, seems like yesterday. The time sure does fly.

They get into these spells where they are snakebit. Their offense has been one of the best in baseball, but we go cold so quickly and for prolonged spells, then break out in a 10 game spurt. This most recent run of futility followed a 9 game run unseen in these parts in 50 years. We have to be considering moving Ellsbury down in the order. I don't think he is fully healthy and wouldn't be surprised if he went back on the shelf. We have guys in the minors who could play better than he currently is. 15 days on the shelf and a 10 day rehab stint to get his timing back wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, especially since our 4th OFer is badly outplaying him. I am pleased as hell to see what Severino did last night. He was getting shelled through the first 3 innings, but threw 3 innings of one hit ball to have a solid start at 6IP and 2ER. I am glad we didn't deal this kid off for a pitcher at the deadline. Our issue hasn't been the pitching, we need offense.

Damn I feel like a Red Sox fan after that game last night (no offense). Worst game of the season.

The craziest thing is, we are 3-6 in our last 9 games. In that span, our starters have thrown 52.2IP and allowed 17ER good for an ERA of 2.90. Of those games, we allowed more than 2 runs twice, and one of those was a win. We are 2-5 in the other 7, where the starters allowed 2 or less runs. The offense should be embarrassed

I'm guessing that Betances and Miller aren't available today.

Shouldn't be, I hope Joe uses Warren as the closer. Give Shreve and Wilson some rest too.

Wow left him in, I didn't think Joe would do that. I'm excited to see Severino tomorrow. He seems to of built on his first start, hopefully he can build again. Tanaka was impressive today.

Tanaka was very good. Yankee pitching is very underrated. Last week, even though the Jays swept them, their hitters didn't break out against the Yankees.

Watching Greg Bird play has been a treat. He looks like a vet, glad Cashman brought him up. I could see him as a 290 hitter with a 360 obp with 25-30 homeruns, maybe a 35 homerun season once or twice in his career.

My only issue with Bird is that he seems injury prone. The talent is there and we sure need him. I think Tex ends up on the DL and this kid gets a nice run. He is probably here to stay with ARod looking old and Tex injured

Glad to see Pettitte's number retired and have a place in monument park with the other Yankees greats

A Monument Park dedicated to players who haven't had their numbers retired by the Yankees would be significantly smaller. In less than a decade they're going to be forced to use three-digit numbers, or fractions.

Guys, we won 5 titles with Pettitte and he was our most consistent pitcher throughout. Yes, there is the PED admission, but this isn't the HOF. He's 3rd in wins, 1st in K's, and 1st in playoff wins in Yankee history. He had 8 200IP seasons as a Yankee and 2 seasons where he was over 190IP. The guy was very, very consistent in an age where pitching consistency was non-existant.

And I find it interesting how many people s*** on NY for retiring the numbers. Bernie was our best hitter from 95-02, otherwise known as the golden years. He had a 7 year run of .300+BA and .900+OPS which just so happened to coincide with winning 4 titles. Add to that the .850 career playoff OPS along with 22HR and 80RBI in 121 games and you have a great player. Maybe not HOF worthy, but definitely worthy of number retirement

Jeter and Rivera are obvious, so I wont even state their cases. Posada is a borderline HOFer who won 5 titles, 4 as a starting catcher for us. He was 10th all time in HR, 13th all time in RBI, 7th all time in OBP, 7th all time in SLG, and 4th all time in OPS for catchers. He was an all time great catcher who deserves mention for the HOF. He also deserves to have his # retired. He won, he put up the counting stats, he was a leader. His defense was definitely sub par, but the other stuff outweighs that significantly

What do you expect from Sox fans? We're brutal.

Pettitte was a good one. Consistent and durable. Theo Epstein said he's hoping Lester's career path will be like Pettitte's.
