BSN. You keep mentioning Boras.....Who is he representing anyway? Scherzer or Hamels or Cueto? Please don't tell me he is now representing Lester. For the record, I can't see the Red Sox being that dense and ignoring their pitching but I do have a fear that we may get out-snookered and wind up with pitchers like Masterson, Hummel, Santana and McCarthy types which will make winning next season impossible. I still think if the Red Sox just tell Lester they want him and make him an offer without a bunch of ******** on the sides we may be able to get this done sooner rather than risk it later. BTW, Peter Gammons said today he feels the Red Sox will get Lester. To me that's the kiss of death because that ham-baloney hasn't been right about anything the past few years.

He is representing Scherzer fred. And Scherzer being the top 1a SP on the market you know he's gonna do his dog and pony show and drag it out unless someone gives him his moon and stars offer right away. Most of the other SP are gonna wait for him to set the market, which means probably an overpay to get anyone to sign right now. The FA market will also have an effect on trades because teams with SP to move are gonna want to wait for the FA well to dry up so they can get the most they can. When Boras holds a top piece that market is always slow. The offensive market broke quick this year. Funny, Boras doesn't represent any of the top hitters... hmmmmm lol

Good post.

I have to wonder if Scherzer will eclipse the offer that he received from the Tigers and if so by how much?

I don't really care. But I'd love to see Boras mess this up as he did with Drew. If Scherzer is forced to settle for less than the Detroit offer I will laugh so hard!

Probably won't happen but it's fun for me to think about since I don't like Boras, Scherzer, or big dollar contracts.

Carry on.

No I get you BSN. Boras' palsied hands are on Scherzer-----and, yes, that means this pitching parley may play well into January with that crud holding things up as long as he can. He never worries about where a player might be most comfortable....with him it's always the dollar. Did a helluva good job with Drew and Kendrys this past season, didn't he? Well now it might be a longer wait that I wanted for that pitching---and we might just have to go the trade route for those two top pitchers we need. I don't know how long we can wait on Lester, sad to say, and I keep getting the feeling that it is he who stringing Henry along instead of the other way around. It wouldn't surprise me if he gave Prune Face, Lucchino, Cherington and, indirectly, us a big middle finger when he signs with some other team.

I like the Ramirez bat for the lineup. Probably the best FA hitter on the market. As far as playing OF a couple of things. 1) It was his idea and probably the reason BC went hard after him. 2) Last season we had a couple of athletic IFs who learned how to play the OF. Ramirez believes this will be easier on the body then playing SS so HE wants to make the change. SS are athletic enough to make the transition to the OF. There are so many examples of this. I think he also likes the idea of playing with Papi and the Panda in Boston.

Well there does not seem to be much to talk about now that the biggest signings and deals seem to be in the rear view mirror. Scherzer and Sheilds not withstanding.

I have been thinking of the Sox signing Hanley. It kind of came out of the blue and seems to be a head scratcher at first.

I really don't buy the idea that Hanley is the LF designate going into the 2015 season. Sure, he could and probably will play that position at least part of the time.

I really think that Hanley was signed to be the replacement for Papi at DH when Ortiz hangs them up in about two years. The guy is an elite bat with pop. He has had some injuries in recent seasons ( not sure how significant they are ). But having Hanley fill in for Papi at DH in 2015 and 2016 and playing some games in Left and at SS seems to make sense, I guess. One way or another, the Sox grabbed an impact bat, even if it came with some warts. Offensive talent like Hanley is at a premium. Most people outside of Boston seem to think that the Sox got a bargain signing Hanley at 4/88. I hate big contracts but 22 mil/yr for Hanley's bat is not objectionable given what he COULD contribute.

I believe that the Sox are still fully committed to XB at short at least in the near term. No one sees Hanley as a good SS defensively. But I think that if XB struggles, gets injured, traded, or just needs a day off, Hanley will be playing SS with little if any drop off in defense.

I'm not sure that Napoli will be 100% back to 2013 performance and he is not a sure thing to be back in 2016 either. So I think that Hanley could have opportunities at 1st. If I were to be slotting Hanley into a starting everyday role with the Sox it would be at 1st since he is an infielder and is certainly mobile enough to cover the ground at 1st.

Yes, I still have some uneasy feelings about Hanley / Panda being Gonzo / Crawford part ll. The Sox sure spent a bunch of money on these two guys. Especially since Panda is a tub of goo and may degenerate physically before his contract expires and of course Hanley is currently a very highly paid utility player ( without an obvious starting position ).

Oh well!!! The Sox have done something unexpected in signing both of these guys.

I am very anxious to see how it all unfolds.

Crawford didn't make sense from the get go. I could see Hanley and Panda working out. That's a lot of $$$ to pay a DH though.

Gonzalez wasn't that bad here. I wouldn't say his trade was an abject failure, but having Rizzo at 1b would be nice.

Hanley can hit---of that there is no question. He cannot field effectively any more, not at SS and it is ridiculous to think he could move to 1B and be effective there any more than it is believed he will be effective in LF. For Ramirez to be a positive pickup for us he must rake and rake and rake........30 homers, a 300 batting average and close to 100 RBI's, otherwise I have some misgivings about this signing. Today on Sports Talk Radio LA570 they interviewed Brandon McCarthy and the host hoped he would be a positive influence in the clubhouse because the Dodgers had problems there this season and last. The only people he could have been talking about were Matt Kemp and Ramirez. To me that is red flag right there because Hanley has been a royal pain in the ass everywhere he has played and we don't need a virus in our clubhouse. I hope Papi, Nap and Pedey sit on this guy and keep him on the straight and narrow. We saw what a fractured clubhouse could result in during that 2011 folderoo.

There have been many successful transitions from infield to outfield...Mickey Mantle, Robin Yount, Juan Beniquez, Eric Davis, and Mookie Betts. There is no way to accurately predict Ramirez's ability to play the outfield, but he is athletic enough to be successful.

Let's not forget the it was Hanley that reached out to the Sox and offered to change positions. I'm not sure Hanley would be here otherwise.

And that may seem like a lot for a DH but considering Vmart landed what 17-18M aav on his deal to be a DH, it's not an insane jump.

Big dog. Is it a Muskie or Shepherd. The photo is small a hard for me to see.

She is a German Shepherd. She is a big dog, but she still has some filling out to do. I don't worry about getting robbed.

Shepherds are great dogs.

And loyal and protective and extremely intelligent. For some reason females are very attached to their male masters or daddies, as my four dogs know me as.

I can't wait to see what HR does this year!!

IO--You might get a kick out of this. Everyone here knows I am a little worried about Hanley's attitude and some of the antics he demonstrates each season but it seems every time I think something negative about him something weird happens to me.....No s***!!!! Take for instance when I went off on the guy when I was eating lunch and heard his name mentioned on TV. I no sooner got the negative words out than my glasses dropped off my face and into the spaghetti. Another time I was cursing the thought of this guy gumming up the works and slipped and almost popped my knee. Last week I said something nasty about him and my cough really went haywire. Promise, I have to be a big fan of HR this year because the gods of fate have warned me I better. Soooooooo, I'm hoping he will hit around 310, with 28 homers and 96 RBI's and be able to play in around 135-140 games. GO HANLEY!!!!!!!!
