Lester is gone gone gone!!!!! He will sign with the Cubs if not the Yankees, and Maddon will insist on it. Let's start talking to the Phillies about Hamels my friends, otherwise we will not get that No. 1 ace we need---and that bodes ill for us next season. We must get two top notch starting pitchers and that's that.

Yeah, if Lester doesn't come back to the Sox, he will be a Cubbie for sure. There are two possible destinations for him: CHC and BOS. That's it, that's all.

I still say he comes back to Boston. One thing I can guarantee, though - he's not going to the Yankees.

i think that you are engaging in some very wishful thinking. I am not saying that the Yanks will sign Lester, but if they really want him, they will get him.

Not sure why anyone would sign with the Cubs unless they are into money so much that they don't care about playoffs and titles. That franchise is a shitshow.

s*** show really? I think Theo and Co. have done a good job rebuilding the Cubs. They cleared most of the bad contracts and limited the ones they have given out(Jackson contract is bad but not an albatross). They have also rebuilt the farm system and have a good amount of talent coming up the pipeline. You add Lester and another good veteran SP and the Cubs are contenders imo. Maybe a bat for the OF.

I think Maddon is a good hire for that team. If he wins a WS with the Cubs I don't think a700 will ever be the same again lol

I think Maddon is a terrific manager, albeit a royal pain the ass and a bloviating ******* at times. The Cubs are poised to make a big move next season. They've got a boatload of good young prospects ready to step forth and they've eliminated a lot of their excess trash, something we have to start doing this off season.

Dumber managers than Maddon have won World Championships. Farrell would be in that category. I don't care what happens to Maddon. I am just glad that I will not have to look at his stupid smug puss anymore.

As for Theo's job rebuilding the Cubs, this is his 4th season at the helm. He has stockpiled a ton of major league ready prospects and he has a fat wallet. He will be out of excuses if the Cubbies are not competitive this season, especially in light of consecutive last place finishes and the year they didn't finish last under Theo, they lost 100 games.

I think the Cubs are primed for a real run, if not in 2015, then 2016. They have a lot of youth, the types of players that will buy into Madden's shtick, and a lot of prospects with which to add a key veteran or two. The main problem they have is the division - getting past the Pirates to the Cards will be tough.

He has no excuses for 2015.

It was a cold move by the Cubs but a sensible one. By accounts Renteria did a nice job getting some of the players to take themselves more seriously. Maddon fits with what the org wants to do, good tactically, good with the media. Right there with Showalter and Francona for best working skippers.

Still need the horses to win the title - and this being baseball, often that is not enough either. (a 4 week tournament against playing everyday for 6 months) Cubs need to fill out their rotation, they are oozing high level bats. What is interesting is they are building the team opposite of what a lot of other rebuilders have been doing - instead of home grown arms and go into the market for bats, they are doing the oppoosite. Theo is also doing what he did in Boston, building up a LOT of shortstop inventory (since usually that's where your best amateur athletes have played) and figuring it out later.
