The issue with Fred is of double standards. He calls people out for leaving the board when he has left the board for long stretches of time as well. He calls people that disagree with him "ballwashers, pollyannas and jock sniffers." However, he completely loses his s*** and is offended if he is called a pink hat or a Dodgers fan, which are apparently personal attacks but "ballwasher" is not. At the end of the day, Fred really is no different than everyone else on here, because we all do relatvely the same thing from time to time. The only difference is that the majority of us have not been temporarily banned for being an ******* or had friends permanently banned. If Fred really wants to move on and be the bigger person, he could. It just willmever happen. He pikes going after people. He secretly likes people going after him.

The reality is that this place will never change. People will come and go. Imperial will show up and get really wasted and go after A700. People will have disagreements. Game threads will be horrible. People will take things personally. Some people will be banned. Some former posters will post for a day or two.

I think we'd all just be a lot happier if NESN were showing ST footage. It's only a few weeks away and we just need to relax. Baseball is coming. Get hyped.

Stop trying to read others minds from message board posts. It's not a good indication of who people are. I have encouraged you before and so has Fred to pick up the phone and talk to Fred about the RedSox. You might find out what kind of person he really is if you realy care to find out. If you want to tell someone to be the bigger person, take the step. Make the call. Otherwise, leave him alone and stop telling us who you think he is. Or you can continue to be a heckler from the crowd.

I have zero motivation to call Fred. He comes across on the board as someone who relishes in misery and complaints about life. I have better things to do with my free time than to chat with him. If he want to hear someone drone on and on about the bums on the Sox, I'd rather just call my wife's grampa in FL.

If he wants to be nice, he can just be nice. If he wants to continue to act the way he acts, that's fine too.

The fact that he intentionally tries to goad people into s*** (see his "haha I fooled you comment") he has little ground to stand on when he complains about UN to every new poster.

Are you done? I think we all have a pretty good idea of what you are all about too, and you shouldn't feel too good about it. ;)

Yep, we are just a bunch of fans with opinions. The quest to prove whether those opinions are wrong or right is a pointless and ultimately fruitless endeavor. I only know of one poster that puts his opinions and research truly on the line -- the betting line. When you bet there are definitive results. Everything else is really BS. My buddy iortiz has put a lot of thought into his wagering systems, and it is my understanding that he is fairly successful at it.

Thanks Ted.

It is just a hobby in order to put more excitement and interest to the game. I began with 100 bucks and after 3 years running this model I have made around 10,000 USD, not bad for a fan huh LOL!. Even if I lose this money (unlikely considering the W tendency), it is still the money of the house haha. I see this just as the stock market... but instead of using economic metrics, I use a combination of basic and advanced baseball metrics arranged in a numeric method suggested by an IBM SPSS software (Recently incorporated to my model). I think I said before but this model works pretty decent (72 % of Hit Rate last season) when you bet on 4 1/2 handicap bets at bet365.com since it gives you an edge to away teams and makes it interesting in parlay/multilines tickets when these away teams are underdogs and their pitchers are at least their No. 2s.

Again, I can't wait for pitchers and catchers to report. It will make for far more interesting discussion here.

I wonder if Hanley will report on time or if he is stupid enough to pull a Manny? If I were him I would have been shagging fly balls all off season and show up early to do even more of it.

I wonder if Bradley and Graig have been in the cage at all in the off season.

What happens if one of the new starting pitchers shows up with an injury or becomes hurt in spring training? Who takes his place?

I have lots of questions.

That is a very impressive record. You could do it as a profession. I know a guy who made a fortune as a life insurance salesman, but before he went into that field he was a professional gambler. The horses were his expertise. He used to list Gambler as his profession on his tax return.

I hope that XB was doing a lot of work on his defensive footwork.

Sure you both have had your differences, but in all fairness MVP, recently I think Fred has been very nice with you as far I remember.

I have said this before, but while some posters talk about the FO and players (good or bad, Fred's case), others attack the poster. Of course, once you are attacked, like in Fred's case, you have to strike back, Newton's 3rd law haha.

I think I've been disciplined and cautious when I bet. Thanks God I haven't lost my mind reacting based on my feelings; I think it has been great part of this little success. Some still calling it lucky... well I think time will tell.

And recently, I've been very nice and respectful to Fred. I have no issue with anything Fred has said to or about me in recent memory.

Then maybe everyone should just call me on the phone and talk to me offline to see what I'm all about then? It's clearly the only way to get to know how people really are on here.

This reinforces my argument... Fred is nice when you are nice regardless you agree or disagree in a specific topic. Problem is when you or anybody is attacked.

Otherwise, all we know is their opinions and attitudes about the Red Sox. Give me a call if you want.

Dontrelle Willis is still bouncing around the minors apparently, coming on with the Brewers now.

I still can't believe Lester's name was in trade talks for him all those years ago.

You pay the most for the best. Not many bargains I'm afraid. We all realize the need for that top quality arm. If there were no arms out there it would not seem as pertinent to us but they are there. It has become a contentious point because the pitching is there. Is there a philosophy - is there a plan? We all know the issues. Lack of a"top" quality arm, too many players in an already crowded outfield. A few defensive questions. Near as I can figure everybody here wants them to succeed. I never went into a classroom or onto a playing field without a plan. I don't blame them for not letting us in on their secrets but I am curious as to what they may be. It is still difficult for me to believe that they sign Sandoval and Ramirez without going after that big gun they need. They have made some nice additions - I am just waiting for the next one. have to a believer!

They tried but shitted the bed on Lester. Their plan B was to sign these #4-5 combo and probably round them with a No. 1 which still too be seen.

If they end up like this my feeling of frustration will be just the same as yours cp.

Alot of the discussion back then here and a lot of other places incuded a package of Miggy and Dontrelle. While Dontrelle blew up, Miggy has been the best hitter in the game. They ultimately were packaged to the Tigers in the following deal:

Miguel Cabrera traded by the Florida Marlins with Dontrelle Willis to the Detroit Tigers for Dallas Trahern (minors), Burke Badenhop, Frankie De La Cruz, Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller and Mike Rabelo.

Good deal for the Tigers.

Edit: Great deal for the Tigers.

It seems like this is a good example of two teams knowing what their prospects were worth. The Red Sox wouldn't send Lester, meanwhile the Tigers were perfectly fine trading Andrew Miller, a guy who was better regarded at the time. And even if the Sox traded Lester straight up for Miggy, I think most of us would have all done it anyway.

This is true, and yet this discussion has been had today before Fred has visited and posted on the site. Shrugs.

Sox pursuing Zimmerman. We'll see.

Yes please! I'll believe it when I see it though.

Also, just don't trade Betts/Swihart/Owens and I'm ok with it.

Not sure which name would be, but at least 1 top prospect will be on the table.

Couple of things that I have learned today - iortiz should be in contact with some of my golfing buddies. Fall football usually pays for their next years memberships. You can get banned from the site? If you want to get back on, do you have to go to a counseling group? Appropriate internet behavior. once again - some great posters here. When I first started paying attention to this forum, I think that I came in right in the middle of a series of squabbles. They affected me and I reacted in a way that I normally wouldn't. I am sorry for that. Since that time -today is a good example of that- I have realized there are some very good posters here who rarely dwell on the negative. I now have no one on ignore and don't intend to. If someone disagrees with me, I am ok with that. If they get nasty and personal, I might even react. Really, there are very few who tend to do that. It is obvious to everybody on the board. I think the forums have been pretty good for a very down time for us all. I also hope that XB gets it done this year. I believe that he will hit. His fielding will be what it is. He would not be on my no-trade list.

I wish I could see this somewhere. It is the type of thing I would like to see. I am pretty sure that they wouldn't trade for him if they didn't think that they could sign him. They could put a good package together that wouldn't kill the farm. Cost a little but they would be replaceable. If they were able to sign both Zimmerman and Porcello to extensions, I think that it would be a coup for this team.
