The further we get into the 2014 season the more you have to appreciate 2013. The Sox could sandwich a championship between last place finishes. Has that ever happened before?
I think the 1997 Marlins did it,and they did it by disgracefully by breaking up the World Championship team in 1998.

Which is crazy due to fact the 2013 is practically the same as the 2014 team, less Ellsbury and Salty.

And Salty got benched in the World Series because he was helpless at the plate.

Peavy looks good against the Dodgers, probably best for him to be in the national league

Spoke too soon here. Rough inning for him in the 5th.

I noticed, went outside for a smoke and came back to see the score

The Sox have lost a ton of one run games. I think Salty's handling of the pitchers was missed a lot early on.
I understand why they got rid of Salty and got AJP, because of our prospects but I liked Salty. He wasnt a gifted catcher defensively, esp his arm but he had a good attitude, improved every year, had a good bat for a catcher and youre probably right considering the two seasons, he was also a good game caller.

I'm not sure about him being a good game caller. Mostly because I really don't understand exactly how the mechanism of game calling works.

However, I agree with everything else that you said. His bat is especially missed.

salty struck out too much and was prone to horrific slumps.

Salty is not as good a player has he was for us last season - but he had a much better chance of that than Pierzynski did. I understand why they let him go, but it made a lot more sense to let Vasquez handle the job earlier. This team did a lot of very counterproductive dithering with low ceiling vets this year ... just silly for a "reloading" season.

I agree.

3/21 was not so much that the Sox could not absorb 2-21/2 years of Salty after Vasquez was brought up. I realize that Swihart is on the way and may be here as soon as mid 2015 if he performs well when promoted to Pawtucket. There is no guarantee that either of these kids will be starters going forward. But even if they both start the season with the Sox next year, Salty could have been moved then. I don't get it.

I think letting Salty walk was stupid.
