When was the last time Phil Hughes saw the 6th inning vs the sox? Heck, when was the last time he saw the 6th with only 68 pitches?

The Red Sox are 14th in the AL in runs score. You figure it out.

I cringed when I saw Mujica come out for the 9th but it ended well.

Great pitching again tonight. We need a bat.

Well there was a good sign tonight.....our first five, Holt, Bogaerts, Pedroia, Ortiz and Napoli went a collective 7 for 18. That's not bad. We could have used a few more productive hits but it was good enough this time out. We need a few more balls to go into the seats, however. The other good news was the pitching was solid, both starter and reliever even though Jon hurled 30 pellets that first inning and most importantly we won the game. We need to get that hat trick tomorrow. Winning series is fine but right now we need some sweeps.

I can watch that play over and over.

In a season that has been pretty miserable overall, Holt has been a very good story.

I can't wait to see what he will do next. I hope that it includes continuing to hit.

Holt has been the biggest and most pleasant surprise of a season that has been mainly painful thus far.

Yes, I agree.

I don't see the Sox becoming a playoff team this year. Everyone seems to be waiting for some wonderful turn around that will get them back into the hunt. I just do not see that happening this time. The Jays are ice cold NOW losing 7 of their last 10 games. The Sox are still quite a ways back. The Sox need to win consistently to make up the deficit. But the have trouble scoring more than 3 runs each game. Unless they can get 5 or so runs each game they will never catch up to a playoff birth.

But we have nice little stories like Holt's unexpected production to keep us watching and continuing to hope that things will get better.

This is life as a Sox fan. I realize the odds are not good that the Sox will be a playoff team this year. But I never lose hope.

Last night's game gave us a rare series win. We need to win 5 of our next 6 series to getto the point where they can be voewed as a serioisly competitive team for a post season spot. Right now, they are not competitve. They are one of the worst teams in the league. They have been embarrassingly bad to this juncture.

Yup. But it's like an accident on the highway. We can not keep ourselves from looking no matter how terrible the view is.
