BEL is right. 2000 was technically LAST century as there was no year zero. Centuries end on years with 00's and begin on the 01's.

Oh jeez not the year 2000 thing again.

There is no universal agreement on which is the correct answer to this, because nobody really knows if there was a 'Year 0' or not.

I've always simply thought of 2000 as part of this century since it starts with "2". Nineteen-hundreds ended with nineteen-hundred-ninety-nine. Doesn't that make more sense than creating bizarre mathematical formulas for the express purpose of proving that 2000 is part of the 1900s?

Um, ok...

Um, not OK!!!! Not at all. You count one to ten, not zero to nine. The last year of the 20th Century was 2000----ninety 1 to zero (otherwise 10). This century started with a one and not a zero. Kindly get this straight or I'll have to come over and beat the s*** out all of you:)

Yes, counting is advanced mathematics.;)

Pink hats? I don't even know how that term would be applicable to any of the members on TalkSox.

I know, I know......I was encouraging you to keep it up and the hell with the um ok. What I cannot understand is that everyone knows we count from one to ten, not zero to nine, and on TV, in the media back in 2000 pundits of the left and right, talk show hosts, newsmen and even sports reporters were telling those who would listen that the year 2000 was not the start of a new century but the end of the old one. Hell, back in history President McKinley brought in the new century with some real fanfare......in 1901!!!!! Well, we'll just have to keep at them.

Man, you and Fred are certainly getting along today.

I've gained some real respect for mvp and believe that I have really misjudged him in the past. For the record, he has only partly misjudged me. There are times I can be a real headstrong jerk and he and others have seen that, but other times I'm almost a semi-Pollyanna. Guys I've met face to face from other boards have told me they were shocked when they met up with me because I wasn't that dirty SOB they thought they knew. Jeckyl and Hyde? Maybe!!!!!!

can't believe anyone from RSN that's been a sox fan since 98 doesn't know this

I guess I'm not the only one with memory issues

The saddest thing about this argument is that it actually isn't the dumbest one TalkSox has ever seen.

There are plenty of people on both sides of the 2000/2001 debate. As far as baseball goes, the Yankees have won two championships in the 21st century. Not according to me, not according to anyone on the other side of the debate, but according to MLB historians and writers. You may not agree with it, but as far as baseball is concerned, that is what is so. Debating whether or not 2000 is part of the 2000's doesn't really matter. All that matters is what baseball says. I'm not saying you are wrong, a700, because there is no Official Bureau of Century Marking. I'm just pointing out what baseball is saying. There is no consensus on 2000/2001. Argue away on that, just not as a semantic point in a baseball thread.

They are Yankee fans. They deserve to have their chops busted. Do you have a problem with that? Also, it really doesn't matter. What was pinstripezac when they won in 2000-- two years old? I hope he enjoys those memories.

You are quickly becoming my favorite Yankee fan on this forum. I have lived my whole life in NY -- more than 30 years in NYC. Your posts renmind me so much of the mindless ravings that I grew up hearing from Yankee fans. Based on the level of your discourse I am assuming that you are about 14 years old, so you would not have seen the 2000 world series that you are crowing about. But then againAn most Yankee fans are only capable of grade school discussion. You might be 40 or 50. In this regard, Yankee fans are ageless. :)

At the end of the day, the Red Sox still have more championships this century. Can't we all smugly agree on that?

3x as many.

When I was informed that MLB/NESN centuries are different from real life, I could no longer argue.

LOL!! I am not here to answer your argumentative questions -- neither of which is about sports. I am here to tell you what I think. I could care less what a person of your limited intelectual capacity thinks about anything. ;)
