I'm an *******? I have reading comprehension problems? I am not menopausal yet plus that's an accusation that 700 has hurled at me over 50 times. Not orginal, accurate or funny... kinda like your posts. Calm down young pup. It'll be ok.

Of course I had to Google Lupita D'Alessio and I'm missing your comparison of me to her. She's 10 yrs older, looks over-weight, has short red hair. I'm 10 years younger, not over-weight and have long brownish hair. Oh and I've only been married once.

Just another failed attempt at humor by you, I suppose.

LOL! Oh boy!

1. I didn't call you an *******. I said "a la Ure-******* = U?". LOL.

2. I said "PROBABLY" it is the menopause, IDK. I said that because some women with menopause act aggressively/irritant, and considering your age it could be the cause -- not because Ted--, since you are acting a bit aggressive calling some of us with funny names. Still, There's nothing wrong for a women been in that situation.

3. ...and about "la Leona dormida" LOL! I'm not saying that you are at her age or something, I'm saying that because you are acting like Her. But that was a joke just like you did, calling me pup or whatever.

4. Said that, Can we drop this?

LOL - here is the thing. I feel a700 bitterness on one level. But it's the team and season that made me a Sox fan. And honestly, after 2004 - it is hard to get THAT bitter anymore.

It can be a lot of things that cemented a Red Sox fan to his team. It could be just a simple thing as attending a game one summer afternoon at Fenway Park, and it could be the whole '86 season in your case, a pretty damn successful season if you look at the whole package, and it could be what happened in 2004 when it seemed there were a lot of new converts to the cause. But no matter what the reason was I think I'm standing on pretty firm ground when I say that right now, this very minute, there is no greater feeling for any baseball fan unless your team is the Red Sox. Right now this is hyperion for us.

iortiz, I met VA Fan at Fort Myers in 2007 and truth be told she is an attractive woman. Nothing lacking there, but I think we should all now move on. Let's now move on as you suggest and see if we can just have some fun here. Frankly, though I can also be argumentative, I really hate getting into pissing contests with my fellow posters. It leaves me filling miserable when it is over.

Sure Fred, no problem.

I met VA at a smoky, intimate little bar-slash-inn on the coast of Virginia one magical weekend, and...well, I promised not to mention anything beyond that.

Way to go blabber-mouth! ;)

I was at Game 7. Box seats behind visitors dugout. I was 15, and my buddy's father scored 4 tickets, and gave them all to us kids. It was magical. I was old enough to fully appreciate what I was seeing, but young enough not to be jaded and cynical about the realities of pro sports. They were my heroes.

Great times, fun season. That was when the back page of the sports section was like the Bible. A must read. Clemens, Hurst, Oil Can, Nipper.

Of course, the Hendo homer in California was epic. Good memories all around. Until...

Haven't seen you much lately Gringo. Good to see you posting again. I coming to the conclusion that there was enough good stuff in 1986 that gave you long time Sox fans much to cheer about. I do, however, understand my pal Ted and his angst over how it all turned out. I feel the same way about 2003. I had one terrific memory of that season, July 4th to be exact, Yankee owner George Steinbrenner's 73rd birthday and the first game of a big four game series between his Yankees and our Red Sox. A New York friend named Bill Gately secured two really good seats for that game and after a nice Italian lunch in the Bronx's Little Italy section of town, we went and I saw the Red Sox hits seven dongs in a 10-3 rout of the Yankees, not a nice birthday present for George. Still the way it all ended with that God damn Grady Little......well, we all know how that came out. It ruined most of the season for me.

Thanks, Fred. Yeah, in many ways, 2003 should have been the year we won it all. The 2003 season was so much fun, had so many come from behind wins, incredible drama and individual performances. (Mueller hitting 2 salamis from both sides of the plate in one game!)

I also watched more games on TV that year than ever before, so I think my emotional investment was heightened. I managed to get to Fenway a few times, as well. 2003 was the year. So close, eh?

Whenever I reminisce about 2003 or have nightmares about it, it suddenly dawns on me why so many here remember 1986 for similar reasons and yet some remember the pleasant events that took place during that pennant winning year. I keep coming back to the idea that if Steve Bartman and then the Cubs had not screwed up and Grady Little would have managed like a Big Leaguer instead of a busher we would have had a Cubs-Red Sox World Series....what a hoot that would have been. Then I wonder since the Cubs blew it, what would have happened if we had made it and played the Marlins in the WS. Would we have been able to beat Beckett, Burnett, Penny and Co?

I tend to think of 2003 and 2004 together ... it helps make peace with 2003, because from a story arc it made 2004 exponentially sweeter.

The shame in 2003 is that we would have clobbered Florida. Remember we did play them in interleague, and ended up averaging 15 runs a game (including a 13 run first inning in a 25-8 win). Small sample sizes of course - but we could hit their pitching. For the Yankees it was a much tougher matchup - we matched up better with Florida.
