Per Bradford and all the other writers, the Sox have resigned Napoli.

I hated the K's last year but with Salty off the time, I can take it.

Good signing. Terms unknown right now

HE'S BACK BABY!!!!! Hell Yes!!!!

Offseason over. The Red Sox did what they needed to do!

I think they are going to add another power bat.

Im soo relieved that Nap is back. Now this up coming week at the winter meetings Ben can explore the trade markets and add to the roster so his choosing. Great move.

Your offseason isn't over guys. You're losing a pretty damned good CFer. You'd better sign a right handed CFer capable of handling the job should JBJ completely melt under the pressure again

Ha. He sure did melt in that 3 game series in Yankee stadium to begin last season. So did Iglesias.

He looked very good in September callup, and was the next guy on the playoff roster.

They've also got Vic for CF. My guess is they add another outfielder.

Some of the NY writers think Grandy was a better sign than Ellsbury for the Yankees. I agree. Ells is too much like Gardner.

....but we're getting one too. And a RH compliment is just a minor piece. Nice try with your "time to be a downer" post Jacko.[/quote

Jacko is swinging at air User and all he's doing is creating a draft. He knows and we know that this move was what we needed to do, and I would remind you and especially him that our boy Pedroia hit 196 in his two month stint with the Red Sox in 2006, then blossomed the next year with 317, a Rookie of the Year award and a pretty big post season. Bradley needs a chance to show what he can do and we need to give it to him. I also notice that the Yankees signed another outfielder where they have a total surplus so to me they are still scrambling. And let me tell you this. No matter who they have signed.....Ells, Beltran, McCann, they will miss Cano, Mariano, Granderson and Pettitte more. I'm convinced we can take them on now and take care of them in 2014.

Very happy to have Napoli back. We're a few minor tweaks away from being ready to go. Ben has done a great job of keeping the team competitive for next year.

All we need to do IMHO is grab ourselves a utility infielder. I'd like to pick up some backup help in CF too but that's a luxury, not a need.

If JBJ doesn't do well, we have a center fielder playing right. All they have to do is play Nava and Gomes in the corner outfield positions. We don't need to overpay for talent like the Yankees.

Sounds like some teammates asked the Red Sox to increase their offer, the Red Sox upped their offer by $2 million and Napoli took a discount to come back knowing that his teammates went out of their way to ask that he come back. All of the work the front office did to create an enjoyable atmosphere in the clubhouse is paying dividends. Chemistry doesn't win games, but it sure helps when players like Pedroia, Victorino, Napoli and Lester are willing to leave money on the table to play for us.

Red Sox have approximately $6.5 million left to spend, but they also have six starters and eight relievers. They could free up another $13-14.5 million by trading Dempster or Peavy. The Diamondbacks are reportedly looking for a veteran starting pitcher and they have two shortstops. We could trade Dempster or Peavy for Didi Gregorious or Chris Owings and we'd have our bench player. That would give us the salary to sign Choo (if his contract demands are reasonable) or Hart. If we sign Hart, we could trade Gomes and free up another $5 million. If the Dodgers get really desperate we could trade for Kemp, but I'm not crazy about the idea. Jackie Bradley Jr. will be fine. But just in case, I'd sign an elite defensive player like Tony Gwynn Jr. to a minor league contract as insurance.

There's plenty of salary room to continue to improve. And we have plenty of trade chips both at the major league level and in the minors. The Winter Meetings haven't even started yet.

But that's the thing. We're not desperate to fill holes, our roster could contend as constructed, so we can go out looking for the luxury moves that make sense, ones that help us next year but don't put us in trouble going forward. And we don't really have to make any moves at all unless they are slam dunks. That's a fantastic place to be.

Nice to have Napoli back. Sweet deal too, I figured he was getting 3 years minimum with a shot at 4 or 5.
